Nearly nine hours after a Deadly Police shooting. Pete sore rat toes is live with clues about the suspect. Reporter we know that authorities are saying that that suspect was wanted in section to a Homicide Investigation dating back to 2015. At this hour theyre identifying the victim but they are not identifying that suspect. As you mentioned that whole incident yesterday caused quite the backup right behind me here at that 80 580 it split. That massive backup on the freewa right at the split where folks can either go to San Francisco or oakland and beyond and even towards the south bay right at that split. That backup started at 9 00 a. M. And lasted essentially a whole workday past 5 00 p. M. The Police Standoff was a result of a pursuit of that suspect which began all the way in fairfield and ended at the split after chp laid down a spike strip at University Avenue leading that suspect to crash near a barrier at powell street where were standing in emeryville where police eventually surrounded him and eventually shot and killed that suspect claiming he was armed and fired a weapon in their direction. Now, as for that homicide a case that i mentioned he was connected to, Fairfield Police say he is a suspect in connection to a homicide in december of 2015 of 68yearold william freeman. Now that police may have identified the man who gunned him down, neighbors in that area are feeling a sense of relief. He is a very quiet man, very neighborly, he liked his old cars, he loved his sister. Reporter the suspects identity has not been released as i mentioned nor do we have the identities of the officers who fired those shots, but all of that is under investigation which Authorities Say could take months. Here is the plan, business taxes slashed to 20 , individual taxes narrowed to three brackets. The top rate on the wealthiest comes down and the bottom right on working class famili goes up. We saw this massive dust cloud and we knew that it was probably near climbers. It sounded like really, really loud thunder or very loud like louder than thunder, like loud explosions. Investigators say the child darted into the street as the mom was trying to put him in a car street and was struck. Now police are looking for the driver. We have new details this morning in a major change at palo alto schools. We have confirmed reports that superintendent max mcgee has resigned. Also this morning the palo alto online reports the school board has agreed to go i have him six months severance pay and health benefits. Mcgee has been at the center of multiple controversies regarding concerns over pay raises and Sexual Assault reports. San jose state and two former basketball coaches will are facing discrimination lawsuit filed by a former player. The suit names former head coach david woej i can and an assistant to works at the school in another capacity. Gary williams played two seasons ending last year and claims that he was given less playing time because of his race and accused of coaches of Sexual Harassment and racially charged comments. M. And then it will start to burn off making way for mostly clear skies, but expect to see that fog sticking around through tomorrow. The tech giant is changing those plans and that seems to be causing friction with city leaders. The mercury news reports in june google and the city agreed to build office space in nearly 1,000 units of housing. This would be in the North Bay Shore area of mountain view. Google says in order to build all those homes the Company Needs to build more office space. Google claims new homes would require the company to tear down existing office space, the officials are concerned about that, the plan is up for a vote in november. It is quickly approaching 5 15. New this morning the latest Public Policy Institute Survey Finds a growing number of california ans consider moving due to unaffordable housing costs. The survey found 44 would consider moving from where they lived due to soaring home prices. Nearly twothirds also favor building more local housing. At the same time slightly more than half believe california is headed in the right direction. Microsofts ceo says the companys Search Engine bing will focus more on the pc market. Earlier this week apple said it would replace bing as the default Search Engine for siri and ios and spotlight on mack with google. Peninsula at 59 degrees, San Francisco in the 60s as you are waking up you are noticing that there is fog at Golden Gate Bridge, but when you look at this shot of San Francisco not a lot of fog and thats because were still expecting to see that ridge of High Pressure sitting over the area so its going to keep the majority of the bay area nice and clear with the exception of the coast and thats because we have got a bit of a building onshore flow. The 24 hour temperature change the biggest noticeable change is going to be in the north bay. 5 degrees cooler in napa at this hour than we were yesterday, santa rosa 8 degrees cooler, san jose joining in at 3 degrees cooler than we were yesterday. North bay selfexpecting to drop anywhere between 10 and 15 degrees today. Now, lets talk about that hour by hour outlook. We have got the return of that coastal fog like i mentioned, you can see it right here on our radar. If you notice by about 7 30 it will start creeping in towards the Oakland Hayward area, we will start seeing a bit of hazy skies and then it should burn off just around the lunch hour trending cooler towards the weekend. Todays high draft we will be in the 80s for san jose, a high of 87, livermore 91, antioch 92, for San Francisco finally dropping down into those much more pleasant 70s with a high of about 77 degrees and this is going to set us up quite nicely towards the next seven days and this is what we will start noticing, the drop in those temperatures. So you remember how i mentioned how it might be sticking around, it looks like we will have a successful seven days of 70s and 80s for inland areas. Mike. I call that a success. Successful driving conditions as well for the south bay, peninsula, the trivalley and east bay show a little build for the volume, we will move the map up and show you the upper east shore freeway. For today, though, expect a climb into those 80s and 90s for inland areas but a much more pleasant coastline with temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s. This involved a 14yearold girl, a student here at san mateo high. Shes physically safe, she was able to escape, but she had to fight to get away. This happened yesterday morning as she was on the way to class here at san mateo high. She was about a half a mile away from our location, she was on peninsula avenue. Police say as she passed the Railroad Tracks a man in a white utility van honked at her, a man described as middle eastern got out his vehicle, started pulling her towards him. She kicked him, escaped, ran home and called police. Officers searched the area but were not able to find him. A number of people who live around here are rattled. Im frightened right now. I never thought and sometimes i walk at night like here is just the train. Reporter San Mateo Police are investigating a similar incident that happened in the area last week. Officers are working with this girl to come up with a sketch he have her attacker. Get out. Get your hands off me. The city of santa clara yesterday agreed to settle in the wake of a controversial incident in april of last year caught on camera by police body cameras. Officers arrived at the home of Danielle Harmon to arrest her 15yearold daughter who they say was an arson suspect. Harmon refused to open the door because police had no warrant. Harmon broke her ankle in the scuffle that followed. Santa claras police chief stands by his officers though not everyone agrees. We firmly believe the judge would say the officers acted in good faith and they are not in violation of law and that is the reason why i completely support their actions. Santa clara Police Department trampled all over this mothers constitutional right and then they trampled all over her body. There was no need for them to make this type of entry. The 6. 7 million settlement covers Excessive Force and longterm disability. It does not admit to criminal guilt. At 5 35 new this morning the Fremont Unified School district may build a new school. The school board heard from people in the Community Last night. District says the new Junior High School would go up on the horse property behind mcdonalds on fremont boulevard. Several schools will convert to middle schools. The district does have a timeline to make those changes through the 2022, 23 school year. More details now, population is booming across Silicon Valley and actually straining some School Districts. Maybe not for long. We looked into some projections overnight. In a report from may of 2015 kids will actually go down in the coming years. The total number of kids and you age 10 will decline by 5 to 8 . Silicon valleys k through 12 enrollment rates will decline by 3 through 2015 and 2023. Researchers say the number of women who are of childbearing age has not grown and will not keep pace with other population groups as they grow. With a school here in full swing you may have noticed your kids have a lot of homework that requires Internet Access and yet there are many families who dont have access at home. It turns out about 70 of their teachers assign homework or projects that require Internet Access and a lot of them dont have access at home. So in order to close that gap at 11 00 this morning 3,200 oakland unified High Schoolers will get free hot spots, tablets or smart phones that act as wifi hot spots. Wireless Company Sprint is making that donation as part of their 1 million project working with oakland nonprofit Tech Exchange and oakland students not the only bay area students benefitting from this. In addition to the 3,200 oakland unified High Schoolers getting devices today this year alone 4,000 east side union hig schoolers got devices with hot spots, 600 students in the west contra costa unified district, 242 in san jose unified also got devices so far this year. The best part of the story may be there is still time for your School District to get involved in this one million project. Emeryville yesterday we had that full closure but no problems since yesterday evening when things reopened about 5 30 after that Police Activity finally cleared from that side of the freeway. A crash has been reported west 580 coming over toward the split with west 80 and that is right there at the maze. We reviewed 20 years worth of documents and safety records and found consistent issues that raised serious safety concerns surrounding oroville dam itself. Everything from a 15 foot crack in gate 8 to cracking trunnion rods that maneuver those Flood Control gates themselves to other issues that state officials insist are not an immediate cause for concern, but raise serious questions for some safety engineers we spoke to. When i show you that, what does that say to you as an engineer . It tells me weve got a problem and it tells me that were lucky that it hasnt manifested itself to a great problem and a crisis. Sacramento Police Release this had in an effort to be transparent. This happened on september 7th. Police were trying to stop a pickup truck driver wanted for a double homicide. Eventually he pulled over, officers asked him to turn the engine off and keep his hands up, but he wasnt listening. Put your hands up where i can see them. Get your hands up. [ gunshots ] shots fired. Im hit. Okay. Well, one officer was shot in the vest and a second officer was shot into the leg. The entire shootout lasted less than a minute, both officers survived but the suspect did not. New this morning, parachute centers are getting overnight is an effort to keep jumpers safe. Jerry brown signed a new bill to hold the owners and operators of skydive pa filts more accountable. Parachute companies will of to ensure that tandem skydive instructors and packers are properly certified. Two skydivers were killed during tandem jumps last year. Investigors dermined the instructor was not properly certified. Since 2000, 15 people have died after taking off from skydive lodi parachute center.
