We can handle anything. Short terme, but long terme we really. It is our lifeline. We. We need our road back cut off by a massive landslide. Residents of the Santa Cruz Mountains community are now desperate for help. Good evening. Im ama daetz and im dan ashley. Thanks for joining us. Its been two weeks since the landslide changed everything for those folks access to and from their neighborhood just off summit road and highway 17 is limited and utilities are at risk with every passing day. And as abc seven news south bay reporter Dustin Dorsey explains, residents say the worst part is theres no fix in sight. After major storms in the Santa Cruz Mountains led to a partial closure of mountain charley road on february 29th, this is what it looked like then. This is what it looked like two weeks later. How difficult has this been for the last two weeks to not have an accessible road in your neighborhood . Its been horrible. A large landslide has destroyed this road just a few miles from highway 17. The slide sits at the base of don ferris and amanda watsons homes, both of our cars are on the other side of the slide. Weve already had a couple vehicles get stuck, trying trying to make it up there. We have to walk a good quarter mile, you know, carrying, you know, dog food and groceries for the rest of the neighborhood. Internet and water lines are threatened by the slide, and propane is in limited supply. Driving anywhere is nearly impossible. Theres only one way in and one way out. I mean, we had to evacuate back in 2020, and you know, it can be a little chaotic when everyones trying to evacuate. And this road is so tiny and narrow. And i mean, were all fearful that emergency vehicles wouldnt be able to get up here. We might be stuck and not be able to get out and perish. Fire season is just a few months away, and the road may not be fixed by then. Santa cruz county Officials Say theres no repair date in sight. We need to really wait for this landslide to sort of stop, we need to make sure that theres no moisture thats continuously contributing to this landslide, which we have seen in recent days with all the rain that we have experienced, so our we are just closely monitoring the situation, even when repairs can be made, the county says they would need to look to state and federal emergency funds to help pay for it. Until then, the neighborhood remains essentially trapped and residents cant even fathom the road not getting fixed. We can handle anything short terme, but long terme we really. It is our lifeline. We need our road back. The community is rallying together. They hope local leaders will do the same in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Dustin dawsey, abc seven news a large section of interstate six 80in the east bay will be closed this weekend for repairs starting at 9 p. M. Tonight, southbound lanes from the 580 junction to koopman road will close. Caltrans says the project will resurface, deteriorating pavement and make it safer for drivers. They try to get this done on mlk weekend, but the rain stopped them. Caltrans says closing it during the weekend avoids nighttime closures, which would have taken several months to finish. And unlike the bad weather that postponed the work on 680, it is spectacular around the bay area today. Check out this live picture from our camera in emeryville. It really is nice a meteorologist sandhya patel is here with our current conditions, including whats going on with those winds that weve had the past couple of days. It was really pretty gusty. Sandy. Yeah, it was even this morning. Dan and emma. But we have started to lose the winds and we gained the warmth. Take a look at the temperatures right now. It is still pretty warm. 74 in san jose, oakland 72 in San Francisco. Looking at some other temperatures mid 70s in vallejo, fairfield, santa rosa, mill valley. As we check out those winds, they are lower than where they were earlier, so not quite as windy. Hawkeye 25 miles an hour. The breeze at the lower elevations gusting to 17 in hayward and as we go hour by hour. Still a few gusty spots, but that is mainly around lake and solano county. Here are some of the peak gusts the last 24 hours 72 miles an hour. Mount diablo over 50 miles an hour at oakland hills, big rock ridge, nicasio hills. And it was 47 miles an hour at mount eminem. We do have some changes coming this weekend. Ill be back with those details coming right up. Dan. Okay, we dont want any change. Let it be. You want it to hold. It aint broke. Dont fix it. Yeah. Thanks a lot. All right. Were following developing news with a United Airlines plane that lost an external panel midflight today. Get a car up here now that deputy suffered a shrapnel wound to her hand. Santa rosa police are investigating the shooting. They say the suspect was armed with this ak 47 style rifle. This fundraiser page from a Peace Officers Association is collecting donations. Police say cervantes likely died from injuries in that car crash. The investigation continues. Its a settlement that would put an end to the typical 5 or 6 commission that most agents charge. Abc seven News Reporter suzanne fawn has a look at the impact in the bay area. The median home prices are really high. Santa clara county 1. 3 million. About the same in, in San Francisco county. But theres potentially some good news for those in the market. The National Association of realtors agreed to settle a series of lawsuits over excessive fees, which could make the 6 commission a standard in buying or selling a home. A thing of the past. I think its great. Why . Because it seems to me like its a bit excessive and, you know, it cuts into your profits of selling your home. That would be fantastic. I mean, if youre selling a home for 2 million, that amount adds up. Really quickly. Well, it benefits the sellers because theyre not paying that commission. Commission guidelines had been set by the National Association of realtors for decades, but the group was also accused of conspiring to keep them artificially high. As part of the agreement, theyll pay 418 million in damages and eliminate the guidelines, bay Area Real Estate experts say. Commissions in california have always been negotiable. They have mixed reactions on the settlements impact. Big picture is i dont think anything is going to change, in my opinion, i think that well have a more of a transparent approach to, helping people understand who pays for what and for what, service in the transaction in the settlement might spur some activity in the market, because sellers have been sort of hesitant lately, but now with a little bit of extra money in their pockets, that might be a good thing. Some argue that realtor fees could drop by 30, or that this could give rise to Online Brokers offering discounted realtor services. Others wonder if dropping Commission Fees would mean lower bay area home prices. No, not in the bay area. We have demand, but it could shrink the number of real estate agents. Were going to be forced to refine our practice, sharpen our skills and make sure that we have those conversations with consumers so they know what theyre paying for.
