And as we go through the next couple of hours, the milder start, the cooler afternoon as we look for clouds for most of us. But the few isolated showers in the north bay and temperatures will be in the upper 50s to the lower 60s today. Stephanie. All right, lisa, thank you. Now back to that incident in the east bay. More than a dozen people were injured in that collision that happened at 54th and international boulevard. Now authorities are trying to figure out what led up to the crash. Heres abc seven News Reporter tara campbell, a head on collision friday evening in east oakland. An ac transit bus and car colliding skies seven capturing the aftermath as emergency crews responded, international command. Multimax involving an ac transit bus and reports of people trapped up the block. Im investigating now. A third covid19. Additionally, the crash happened around 5 00 in the evening near 54th avenue and international boulevard. I got three three patients in a Toyota Corolla participacion en la calle hasta la policia, a witness telling us one man had to be pulled from a car fire crews say three vehicles were involved, injuring at least 14 people. And a spokesperson for ac transit says 12 of those injured were on the bus, including the driver. The information that i have from our crews is that everyone was conscious and speaking on board our bus, as for how many people were on board the bus, he says thats still unclear. It does appear that uh other riders were on board and did not sustain injury, and left the scene on their own accord, he says their road supervision crew was on scene, talking to witnesses and trying to piece together what caused the crash. The facts seem to suggest that a chrysler 300 was traveling in the southbound lanes of international boulevard. It broadsided another vehicle that was attempting a left turn. The impact between the two cars sent the chrysler 300 over the Center Median and into the northbound lanes, and struck the temple line one bus head on. Hollister police rescued hundreds of animals from inside this home. Police made the discovery on thursday. They said cats and dogs were living in deplorable conditions without food or water, and housed with built up feces. Police arrested a couple for felony animal cruelty. Hollister resident sherri said she connected with one of the organizations founders through facebook last weekend, and adopted two cats on sunday. You could tell he cared. He brought a big bag of food and the ears were clipped, meaning they were spayed and neutered and i was just shocked. I was absolutely shocked when i read it was the two of them that that was arrested. Police said 200 cats with extreme medical conditions and 13 dogs were saved from the property. The acting Deputy Director of san jose animal care and services said people may be well intentioned when running rescues, but overcrowding is detrimental. Just because you can set up another crate doesnt necessarily mean you might have the personnel to actually adequately provide that that care. So it really puts the entire population of animals at risk for people looking to adopt from a shelter or rescue agency, ask questions and observe conditions of how theyre transported by simply asking, how many animals do you currently have in your facility . How much . How many spaces do you have uh for the animals . Is this a facility that youre able to go and visit outside the home off el toro drive . A do not enter sign is posted on the door. We spotted several cats wandering around the front yard for animal advocates like sherri, she hopes people make the right decisions. If theyre overwhelmed, just reach out for help. You know, theres so many people that love animals. I know theres just so many people that would have been here for them. That was Lauren Martinez reporting the animals went to different shelters and rescue organizations to get the care they need. Now to this, some people are questioning the safety of traveling by airplane after several plane mishaps this week. The latest happened yesterday when a plane from sfo made an Emergency Landing at Los Angeles International airport for the second day in a row. Now, one of the planes three hydraulic systems failed. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but that was the fourth incident involving a united jet. This week. One plane skidded off a runway into the grass in houston yesterday. Passengers were evacuated there. And this morning we want to tell you the story of one bay area man who found out the state canceled his application. Not because he applied too late, but because he applied one day too soon. Abc seven news anchor karina nova has this story from seven on your side. And thats exactly why im so frustrated. Jonathan semenov was counting on a 7,500 rebate to help pay for his tesla model three without breaking the family budget. That was the only way that it made sense for us to move forward with procuring an electric vehicle. He applied for the rebate through the states clean vehicle rebate project, which offers the incentives as california pushes toward a goal of electric only car sales by 2035. We live in the right area. We have the right income as long as we purchase the vehicle filled out the application, we would qualify for the rebate. So jonathan went ahead and bought this tesla last july. Then he immediately applied for the rebate as officials were warning the program could soon run out of money. The state was getting thousands of rebate applications every month. There was a lot of paperwork required. We had to give them access to our w2s, our lending agreements, our tax records. Jonathan submitted all the documents and waited for his money and waited. The program did run out of funds and stopped taking applications. Last november, jonathan figured his rebate was still being processed. It was my birthday morning. I was sort of excited because i thought, oh, what a great birthday present that theyre going to let me know today that theyve released the funds, but not so jonathan got an email in january. There was no rebate. They said your application has been canceled. And my Immediate Response was, wait a second. Officials told him his application was dated one day before the purchase went through. Turns out tesla didnt process the paperwork until after midnight, and by rule, rebate applications must be submitted after the purchase is complete, not before. Even if its only a one day difference. And so were canceling your application based on that. And that was astonishing. Astonishing. What was worse, his application was automatically canceled way back in july. But no one notified him. Now, six months later, it was too late to correct the mistake. Funds were gone to me. Uh this is just government gone awry. We need to do better. State senator bill dodd criticized the way the program handled his case. You apply one day early, you know, if youre going to reject it because of that, they should have sent an automatic email back. Im sorry, youre one day too early. The states air resources board, which oversees the rebate program, said the agency cannot make exceptions even for a minor mistake. Even if he was qualified. A spokesperson said jonathan wasnt notified in time to correct the date because the program was overwhelmed with applications telling us, quote, staff was processing upwards of 16,000 applications a month. Unfortunately that meant a delay in mr. Seminoff receiving updates. They should have warned those people. Theres no excuse for that. They should have realized that this onslaught was going to come and staffed up for it. This is not fair to the average person whos going out into the market buying an electric vehicle based on this rebate program, and then losing those funds for seven on your side. Karina nova, abc seven news. So frustrating. Its possible thousands of applicants missed out on a rebate because the funds ran out in november, and the state is still figuring out how many people were actually denied. And our next half hour on abc seven mornings, the president takes his state of the Union Address to the 2024 battleground. His Key Takeaways in philly as he kicks off his reelection campaign. You know late in the day though the afternoon we could get a little sun but certainly not like yesterday. We have a cold front on the way. Could spread a little bit of rain in the north bay. A couple sprinkles and isolated shower. 52 San Francisco. Pretty start to the day though. 50 in hayward with that sun coming up and as we look at our exploratorium camera, were cooler in the low 40s here in the north bay and napa. But overall warmer for everyone this morning, anywhere from four to about nine degrees milder due to the overnight cloud cover. Good morning everybody. Its not great, but its not terrible either steph curry sprained ankle not as bad as originally feared. Curry rolled his right ankle in the warriors loss to the bulls on thursday night. That injury, occurring late in the fourth quarter. You can see right there steph an obvious pain. You know hes had a long history of ankle issues. But the good news is the mri came back clean so theres no structural damage. Curry definitely not playing tonight against the spurs after that well see. It depends on how his ankle responds to treatment. Its only 20 games left in the regular season for the warriors. Theyre hoping steph misses only a few games and is back soon to help the dubs make a playoff push. Have a great weekend everybody im larry biel. Thank you larry. Well the rain is back this weekend. Lets check in with lisa on the timing. Good morning. Good morning to you. Its going to take a little while. Just the north bay favored this morning from this system. But there are several systems that will visit us the next several days. More widespread rain on the way for your sunday. Gorgeous view here from our pier 39 camera. 52 in the city, as well as oakland, 50 hayward, san jose and Half Moon Bay with san mateo checking in in the upper 40s. And look at santa cruz 46 degrees today. Temperatures coming down from yesterdays mild readings but still pleasant in the 60s mid 60s. Low 60s here. But we had low 70s up in san rafael yesterday, 43 in santa rosa and petaluma, napa with mid 40s concord and livermore. So with the cloud cover will trend cooler, but then well break out into more sun this afternoon with a westerly wind as the front just falls apart and well see those clouds thin out. So hit or miss showers mainly in the north bay this morning. Then looking at the evening showers for your sunday, the winds are going to pick up as well. And then for wednesday we will be sunny in the 60s. An offshore flow for thursday and friday with 70s coming back into the picture. So as we go through the next few hours, theres the front, not much to it. And then throughout the eight 9 00 hour, its just kind of fizzles out. And by 1 00 were partly to mostly cloudy, and then well get a little bit more sun this afternoon. Clouds thicken up for your sunday 4 00 were dry a few couple a couple of showers around santa rosa, though, and then the front begins to sink to the south and east throughout the evening hours. There it is. And it is moving out of here throughout the overnight hours. And a final push of rain into your monday. This is monday night. Could see a few showers throughout the afternoon. That looks like another weak system. But as for today, only the north bay. A couple hundredths into your sunday looking at maybe a 10th to a quarter of an inch, maybe a third of an inch in the wettest locations up towards santa rosa. And then for the Sierra Nevada for the west slopes. We are looking at an advisory here, anywhere from 10 to 18in of snow above 5000ft. This is for tomorrow morning into tuesday. Up to two feet along the ridge tops and winds at about 45 miles an hour. So not done with the snow yet adding to those totals, but shouldnt see any problems getting to the mountains today. And then tomorrow it will be a different story. Perhaps chain controls in the afternoon with 11in tahoe city adding to all of that, all of those feet of snow out there, 62 in concord with some partly sunny conditions this afternoon. Looking at upper 50s today in the city, with 60 in santa cruz, those raindrops perhaps falling in the north bay this morning. Sunny skies in Southern California with mild conditions. Upper 60s for oscar sunday tomorrow. Level one system today. Very weak. More rain for tomorrow and gusty winds. We lose that hour of sleep tonight as we spring forward monday. A little bit more shower activity and then well see that rain again on tuesday. The second half of the workweek. Sunny temperatures into the 70s with those offshore winds. Stay tuned.
