Were so happy to have her have the appropriate welcome home to San Francisco. Speaker emeritus nancy pelosi among a handful of Close Friends and family gathering. We thought was one with great sorrow but great pride in dianne. Her body arriving at San FranciscoInternational Airport sunday evening and escorted to sinai memorial chapel. Theres no one like her. She was wonderful. All we want to do is pay respects to her. We wanted to recognize this moment in history and in San Francisco history and in in world history. And not too far from the funeral home, the senators former home marked by offerings of gratitude, including this thank you note. This is her city and she will be sorely missed. Recalling when then supervisor feinstein became the citys first female mayor after the assassins versions of supervisor harvey milk and mayor george moscone. And she led during a dark time in the city and brought a beacon of light and hope to us. She was one of the first the women that got into politics and were Strong Enough to be able to battle her way up the ladder and stay there, going on to become the first and longest serving woman in congress. Last official thing she did in washington was to vote to advance the bill to keep government open. I love that she was very passionate about what she did up until the end. You know, she clearly loved what she did. She gives the word icon an a whole other meaning because she was so spectacular in every way she met every challenge with dignity, strength and eloquence. The late senator is credited with leading the charge at the onset of the aids epidemic. Abc seven News Reporter anchor hassan was at tonights event and has more. Its been a hard fought battle against hiv aids in San Francisco. Many of the annual Sf Aids Foundation gala say more still needs to be done. It seems like getting to zero infections with hiv is within reach. But San Francisco, there is so much more to do. Even though its 30 years later, the mission is still as important as it was 30 years ago. The atrocities of having emceed by abc7 morning news anchor reggie aqui. The gala marked a milestone and throughout the night many reflected on us senator Dianne Feinsteins role in the fight against aids early on. We were the epicenter of the epidemic and we were really struggling to figure out who our champions would be. There would be many. But among them, some say, was then San Francisco mayor Dianne Feinstein. In many different elected offices. Over time, senator feinstein worked to ensure that we had the local funding that we needed or the federal funds necessary. That funding was crucial in keeping people alive, says paul aguilar. There are 16,000 People Living with hiv in San Francisco, 74 of them are over the age of 50. Im one of those people diagnosed in 1988. Aguilar says. The funding feinstein fought for allowed for the best medical care in the nation, and that transformed how people live with the disease. It was about saving lives that was her focus and, you know, were grateful for all that she brought to San Francisco. That doesnt mean feinstein didnt have her critics. The sisters of perpetual indulgence , who were honored at the gala for their work, say they didnt always agree with feinstein policies. Well, we didnt quite get along, senator feinstein told us. But as abcs and win reports, getting the deal done came down to the wire with just hours to go the house passing a bipartisan stopgap spending bill to avert a Government Shutdown. The bill is passed and without objection, the motion to reconsider is laid on the table. The deal including 16 billion in disaster relief, requested by the white house, but no new aid for ukraine. Speaker Kevin Mccarthy putting his house leadership on the line, announcing the proposal following weeks of infighting within his own party. The governor also vetoed a bill that would have enforced safety laws for domestic workers, but he did sign a bill that closes an existing loophole and bolsters eviction protections for renters. One Armed Robbery suspect is dead and another is injured following a police chase in San Francisco this afternoon. Officers from the Tenderloin Police station spotted a car wanted in connection with an Armed Robbery and multiple auto burglaries as they prepared to stop the vehicle. But it left the scene and headed for the highway. The car then struck an object near the paul street off ramp and san bruno and mansell. Despite life saving measures by police and paramedics, one suspect died at the scene. The other person went to a local hospital in marin county. Now a San Rafael Police officer was injured early this morning after a driver under the influence crashed into a police car. The officer was driving through the intersection at francis eco boulevard east and belem boulevard in san rafael. Thats when a speeding driver ran a red light and broadsided the police car. The officer was treated at a hospital for his injuries and later released. The driver was arrested and booked for dui, resulting in injury and driving without a license. The city can try and take action so that it is more welcoming to these corporates, more welcoming to these retailers, because ultimately, if there are no facilities out there, you wont have a thriving population there.
