The monsoon rains over the weekend turning the lake bed where the event was held into a mud pit. Event goers told to conserve water, food, fuel and at one point asked to help clean the under serviced port o toilets. Overnight event goers burned the giant sculpture of a man, marking the end of the burning manifest val and the start of the slow exodus from Black Rock Lake after thunderstorms transformed this make shift city into a land of muck and mud. Those monsoonal rains changed everything, turning this lake bed into a mud pit that trapped everything. But now the roads have dried out enough that you see this mammoth li line, it stretches for almost 1. 5 miles. Organizers asking the attendees to consider delaying their departure until this afternoon to prevent more congestion. They say President Biden tested negative for covid last night. The doctor will continue to monitor her symptoms and continue to test ahead of his Major International trip later this week. President joe biden is now 80 years old. He already had covid once last summer, including a rebound case. The bidens were last seen together saturday touring the storm damage in florida. President biden gave a labor day speech in philadelphia. As of this morning the president is scheduled to travel to India Thursday for a Major International summit. Trevor ault is on the scene in pennsylvania with the latest. Good morning, trevor. Reporter good morning, michael. Authorities are now shifting the search area for this convicted murderer. Last night he was detected twice on a residents trail cam. It was just south of the area that Law Enforcement had already closed off surrounding the prison. They are confidence he will slip up but, as they stressed from the beginning, he is dangerous. This morning pennsylvania authorities are zeroing in on a violent escaped inmate whos now been on the run for five days. There are a number of challenges. We are confident that if he is in there, we will find him. Reporter the 34yearold was on the verge of a prison transfer when he managed to escape the Chester County prison just outside philadelphia. Hes been convicted of the murder of his exgirlfriend in broad day light. At a press conference monday, Law Enforcement said since his disappearance, theres been four sightings all of them within a one to two mile radius of the prison. Theyre also investigating a pair of burglaries in the area. He is going to be looking for a means to sustain himself. He is going to need clothing. He is going to need food just to get in out of the weather. Reporter authorities are now broadcasting a recording from a helicopter of his more mother encouraging him in his native portuguese, to surrender peacefully. Some nearby schools which were meant to open tuesday had cancelled classes as the search continues. One of the last few days of summer and there are children who, instead of celebrating with their families in swimming pools are in a perimeter where there are Police Officers in their yard checking their swimming pools. Reporter authorities have not yet confirmed how cavalcante escaped. They have confirmed there was another escape from the same prison a few months ago. Attorneys said they discovered new evidence and are looking for a new trial. They are all set to hold a press conference this afternoon. Erielle reshef has the latedest. Reporter expect them to focus on the jury. Alex murdaughs defense team vowed to challenge his guilty verdict and appeal. Today they are expected to lay out their case to retry the man serving two consecutive life sentences for the brutal murder of his wife and son. This morning lawyers for Alex Murdaugh ramping up their efforts to have the verdict against him thrown out. His trial transfixed the nation. The wealthy South Carolina attorney found guilty of fatally shooting his wife maggie and son paul. Guilty. Guilty. Guilty. Reporter his defense team advocated for a mistrial but the judge rejecting those requests. The evidence is overwhelming. I deny the motion. Reporter now his lawyers say they have new evidence and have interviewed jurors in the case looking for bias, claiming there are serious questions as to whether this jury was subject to outside influences during the case. But after 28 days in court and 75 witnesses the jury deliberating just three hours back in march. His eldest son buster, who testified in support of his father, defending him in an interview in fox nations the fall of the house of murdaugh, taking aim at the jurors who convicted him. It was predetermined in their minds prior to when they ever heard any shred of evidence that was given in that room. Not because of the alleged robber, but because of store owners. Theres been a growing number of smash and grabs around the country. Those employees had seen them and when it was their turn, they were ready. This morning dramatic smash and grab video showing Small Business owners turning the tables on this alleged thief, beating and chasing him out of their beloved family store. Watch as the suspect enters the Jewelry Store saturday afternoon hooded, masked and holding a box. The family said he bear sprayed all the employees. I was scared. Their nearly 70yearold uncle ripping off his shirt, sending him running down the street, pulling up his pants and employees continue chasing him. We changed their names, voices weve changed their names, their voices and their faces to help hide their identity. It usually starts with that huge adrenaline rush. Reporter it hasnt been a straying path to recovery for the now 19yearold were calling steve. He first opened up to gma last year about his illegal Online Gambling addiction that he said began at age 15. He asked to not show his face and for his voice to be altered to help hide his identity. Shes here to tell us how it went for her. Good morning, becky. You have a point, linsey. Fully selfdriving taxi service is happening. Folks are excited about that if youre in San Francisco. The Public Utility Commission has allowed two companies to legally transport riders in limited areas. Both companies let us try them in what some are calling robo taxis, riding with no driver though was a real trip. Passengers in the back, nobody in the front. I tried waymo and cruise the two newly legal street legal Taxi Services in San Francisco. Waymo is first. It is just like using a ride share app. Put in my destination and wait. A car appears without a human anywhere in sight. The car navigates the parking lot, a tricky intersection. And then that motorcycle just cut in front of us and they handled it pretty well. Our trip is relatively uneventful. Okay. Now the cruise app. Things start without incident. Then we come to a busy intersection. As we turn a man steps into the street seemingly without looking. Whoa. It was an abrupt stop and jarring for me as a rider. But when we talked to cruise, they say their cameras were tracking the man the whole time, that he was never in front of the car and the car acted as its programmed to, veering left to keep a safe distance from the pedestrian. While the cruise star successfully navigated that situation, there have been safety issues with cars from both companies. Trucks, ambulances, police cars, all that. Most recently there was a cruise car that got stuck in wet cement on the road. Reporter San Francisco has asked cruise to reduce the number of cars on its streets as they work on the technology. The rest of my trip is fine. Speed of the car seems appropriate. No california stops. A full and complete stop every time. Turn signals always going on. Almost there. Weve arrived. Reporter i made it both companies focused on safety. Waymo saying safety is our top priority. Give it up for stephen king. [ applause ] legend. Michael, thank you. Over 65 book. Do you ever run out of ideas . No. I just like to stay one ahead. If i can stay one ahead, im a happy guy. We know holly the name of the book. Holly is a reoccurring character in the stephen king multiverse. What do you love about this character . Well, she kind of walked on in this first book. She was supposed to be a minor character. I just sort of fell in love with her because shes kind of, you know, insecure and yet at the same time she has a lot of courage. Those two things fight against one another. For me thats what makes a character interesting. When you see them go against their basic nature. Shes fun. Shes fun. This book little different than the usual horror your fans have come to grow and love. Tell us about it. Holly, at this point, is a private investigator. She runs a firm called finders keepers. This woman comes to her and says my daughter is missing, can you help to find her . Holly is kind of grieving because shes lost her mother to covid. She still agrees to help this woman out. She stumbles across a series of killings. Couple nasty people who are doing these things. The interesting thing about the nasty people is that they are Elderly College academics who have just gone to the dark side. Gone to the dark side. Yeah. Theyve gone to the dark side. Next year marks 50 years since you wrote about another young lady, woman named carrie. How did that change your life . Changed it in a big way. We were living in an apartment with two kids and i was selling stories to some of the mens magazines. We were just barely making out, you know . I was Teaching School and in the summertime in order to make ends meet i was working in a laundry. Carrie sold for like 400,000 to paperback. I was so excited. It was sunday when i got this news. The only thing opened was a drug store. So i went out and bought my wife a hair dryer. Thats all i could think of, man. [ laughter ] a hair dryer . Yeah. Do you know what . But, there would be no carrie if it werent for tabitha. She fished it out of the garbage can. Yeah. I thought it was too long to be short and too short to be long and i kind of threw it away. And went into the waste basket. She fished it out and read the pages and said, you really ought to go on with this. I said, its about girls and theres a locker room and all this stuff about young ladies. She said, i will help you. And she did. She did. Wow. You know she did. Youve been wearing the same wedding ring for 52 years. This one right here. 7. 50. 7. 50. I went back on the bus with my wife. The car was broken down. I said, gee, i hope these rings dont turn our fingers green. She said, i hope were married long enough to find out. And you have been. You got a big aw. You really we love him so much. Were going to just toss it over the pasta and were going to pop it in the broiler after it sets on the stove top for a few minutes. Super easy and its gorgeous. You could add broccoli or something. Based on your taste. Any leftovers can go in this. I love it. Great, simple idea. That is what we need as we move into fall. Enjoy the summer tomatoes. They are delicious. Little basil, basil. I was with a friend over the weekend and she says basil. Now suddenly im very fancy. Tomatoes, basil toast. This is marinated tomato toast. Is that why they taste so good . Theyre marinated. Theres no bad tomato in my family. We marinate it in olive oil, some grated garlic and juice. We break it over some toast. Then were going to pop a couple marinated tomatoes. Important question. We have to respect the tomato. How long marinate . At least 15 minutes at room temp, if not an hour or so. Got a little balsamic on top. Do you like balsamic . I love it. You can try it.
