They had to do a lot of shuffling last minute to make sure each classroom had a teacher in it. They are looking to fill a lot of the vacancies and they are looking for those as they go into the school year. For the start today, they say they have the bases covered. San francisco unified adult with a similar problem last year, they tried to heavily recruit teachers and had a program hiring teachers without credentials, then they would train you to get the credentials. The program exists again this year. They are mostly looking for paraeducators, ones who can teach special education. They launched a new campaign this month trying to reach people from different backgrounds, including teachers looking for new jobs, others who may have not considered a job that is. Even with the approach, they did the last minute shuffling and are ready for the start of school today. The priority is ensuring positions have been filled, we are also looking for paraeducators to support special education classrooms. We are still out recruiting, San Francisco is a great place to be and work. Hopefully, we will get more members onto our team. District leaders will be going around schools today as they embrace the first day of school, including here at cobb elementary. Ryan implementing a new safety tool that allows students to report anything that might be deemed suspicious about another student or anything they think might be a risk to their safety while they are in school. It allows students at all grade levels to use the method, there are 35 Different Levels and categories to report something, ranging from sexualharassment to selfharm, depression and bullying. They have different ways of alerting parents when instances happen. If it is something minor like a fight, only those involved will be notified. Other things that are more serious, they will notify parents at the end of the school day or immediately. They will use social media to notify the public if something happens. The superintendent plans to go around the district today and feels confident heading into the school year. We want to make sure it is a great first day for everyone. Every school will have members of the Central Office staff out there supporting the school and making sure families and students have what they need to be successful.
