Tens of thousands of residents in the north bay told to evacuate their homes to seek safety here at the sonoma marin fairgrounds. Just one of five shelters in the county now accepting people. Though they are actually housing people. If you come here, you have to be in your car or rv and it appears they still have plenty of space at this time. We do know that space is limited at all of the shelters in Sonoma County. Covid concerns keeping those shelters far from what would be their max capacity. At least one of the shelters are at capacity. We spoke to a couple yesterday who had to leave their homes immediately on sunday. They told us the deja vu of evacuating at a moments notice is getting old. We went through the 2017 kind of the same scenario. We got our bags ready to go, but, still, at the last minute, even thothouugh you think your ready youre scurrying around looking for the last few things. Looking at your list and checking it twice. And the earth is accelerating. Its warming faster than the models were predicting in the 90s and a couple decades agoe. Lets look at what is going on with our temperatures in the south bay. Feels much more comfortable and the air is easier to breathe right now. 59 around campbell and morgan hill the cool spots and most of you in the 60s. Look at this mid 50s to mid 60s out there. Temperatures up to 15 to 16 degrees cooler than yesterday. 68 right there as we look from our roof camera at the Ferry Building and also the marine layer and still going to be hot inland and its going to be better this weekend to do anything outside as far as chores, yard work or even walking the dog. You can see the sea breeze today and it under cuts most of the smoke for most of us outside of the north bay. Were getting pretty lucky. As we head into tomorrow, notice the see breeze starts collapsing in the morning and start to collapse into the afternoon hours and the air quality by this forecast could be even worse tomorrow and the conditions for thursday could be even worse than wednesday. Well talk about that coming up in the accuweather sevenday forecast. Heres jobina. Thank you, mike. Goodern moin morning, everyone. Looking at the map of our bay area and the roads. And visitors should limit their stay to 30 minutes. As wildfires rage across california, there is no question that many firefighters are being pushed to the limit. A san jose firefighter coming off of a 60hour shift ended up racing to santa rosa to help save his girlfriends parents home. I drove straight up to their house and i was going to hang out and triage it and basically move anything flammable away from it and cut down what trees i could. He saw flames when he turned the corner in their neighborhood. He the Fire Fighting gear in his car and soon after santa rosa firefighters got there, too. They worked together and then n firefighters moved on to the next scenes. He called the onduty firefighters the real heroes. I mean, arent they, though . That is a lot of work and for such a little amount of time. It is. I just saw, its really amazing to see these firefighters who are coming from totally different states to come. We appreciate all of that. That is so nice to hear. I mean, they have to be exhausted. This is so long and so nonstop. They go from one fire to another fire and another fire. When do they get a break . For a couple months during the winter when they go back to their regular positions . Hats off. All but love for you guys. And respect. But notice by the time we get to 7 00, it gets a little bit stronger. So, the closer you are to the coast the more pleasant it will be air quality wise and temperature wise. As you move inland, nearing the upper 90s in morgan hill and gilroy and mid 90s through most of the south bay with more smoke and fewer clouds and our records today. 79 at millbrae and low 70s along the coast and mid to upper 70s wouldnt be surprised if a few areas hit 80 around downtown and South San Francisco and sausalito. 88 in san rafael and everybody else mid to low 90s through the north bay. 78 in richmond and 82 in oakland and everybody else mid to upper 80s along the east bay shore and we have mid 90s to near 100 in our inland east bay neighborhoods. For the smoke and the clouds. Look at this, weve got temperatures in the mid 50s to low 60s. So, maybe not a great night to keep the windows open. The as play at the coliseum at noon today. Im not concerned about air quality for todays game there. The worst in the north bay and if it spreads south during the evening hours and overnight after the game ends. Look at that. Well, one of our main three components we look for is gone, the winds. The heat and the dry air is going to remain through at least friday. I mean, look at these temperatures near 80 in San Francisco with 80s, 90s and even 100s as you head through the bay. Well get rid of the 100s and most of the 90s by saturday and still 60s, 70s and a80s and one of our coolest day with 60s along the coast in San Francisco and 70s around the bay and 80s inland. That means its going to filter into more of our neighborhoods, especially the north bay where its unhealthy for everybody and poor for the bay area and for all of us thursday and friday. Temperature today, less heat and more smoke. We have a trade off. 70s to 90s. Almost 100 inland. Reggie . Mike, thank you. We are expecting to get an update from cal fire on the glass fire. Amy hollyfield live in calistoga this morning. Amy . Reggie, here is why that Evacuation Order was put into place. Look behind me. The glass fire is still very much a threat. I am standing on rose del road looking up at this burning hillside. Just a couple hundred feet away from the new four seasons resort and residences set to open later this year. There are also homes in this area. The glass fire showed how erratic and strong it can be. Yesterday afternoon when it went after the meadow wood resort. We had checked out on the property early in the morning and it looked fine. And firefighters were stationed there to watch over it. So, we left thinking meadow wood looked good. By the afternoon, the resort was on fire. The threestar michelin restaurant burned down. By early evening, the order came down for the 5,000 residents of calistoga to evacuate. Look at this. Look at those temperatures up to 25 degrees cooler. Thats when we knew that off shore breeze has ended and that is one of the three items we look at for critical fire conditions. And still, though, the dry air and the heat is going to hang around. Lets go down to the south bay where we have upper 50s. 57 to about 64. As you look around the rest of our neighborhoods, mid 50s to mid 60s. Definitely one of the better nights for sleeping as the air remains clean and cool. 64 and you can see as far as your commute goes. Everything is pretty good except for a little fog right along the immediate coast and the fact there is a spare the air today. You want to recirculate that air as much as possible. Heres a look at the fire conditions up in the glass fire and you can see the temperatures remaining in the mid 90s and well over 100 through saturday. Humidity levels down 20 to 30 . And as we hit the 80s over the weekend, the humidity level start to rise. Well see some improving conditions for the firefighters up there. All right, that is a look at the forecast for now. Well take a look at whats going on as far as the next seven days coming up. Lets get over to jobina and look at the morning commute. Thank you, mike. Good morning. Well add 70s and 80s to that by noon and 80s and 90s by 4 00. Back in the 70s and 80s at 7 00. Now with that sea breeze, look how it cleans the air out except through the north bay through most of the day today. Light and variable winds for the next several days. As we head through wednesday, if you werent smoky today, it really looks like it will be impressive the way the smoke moves back over our neighborhoods tomorrow. All right, thank you, mike. New video this morning shows a perspective that we have, unfortunately, come acustom to seeing althis point. The White Knuckle drive to escape through fire zones. So the glass fire is burning more than 36,000 acres in the north bay. Note in Sonoma County, Santa Rosa City schools are not holding any online classes today or tomorrow because of the fires and the evacuations. Heres a look at the mandatory evacuation zones. There is what you see in orange, the yellow area, those are e evacuation warnings. 1,000 residents are under Evacuation Orders. Julian glover is live where some of them are sheltering. Julian. Hi, good morning, kumasi. As you mentioned the familiar sight of that White Knuckle drive. Many people forced to evacuate yet again. They are telling us this is getting old but one of five Evacuation Centers open here at the sonoma marin fairgrounds and many of them are reaching capacity as folks tens of thousands of them in the north bay try to evacuate here. Space is limited. That is just the reality in the age of covid19 as people try to shelter in Sonoma County and waiting hours to hear the shelter they arrived to was at max capacity and at least one of the shelters, the petaluma Veterans Building they are taking in animals there already at capacity. We spoke to a couple yesterday who had to leave their home sunday after hearing those sirens closing in. We just heard more and more sirens and pretty soon we got the warning alert. And then we decided to leave when there was a warning rather than stay when you were told to evacuate because its really hard to get out because we live just off calistoga road and its bumper to bumper. It took us an hour to get from just below modisito avenue is normally a twominute drive. Bumper to bumper. And this morning here at the sonoma marin county fairgrounds, we have seen a couple of cars pull into the fairgrounds here. Again, this is where people with cars and rvs can park them and stay. They arent sheltering inside because of covid concerns. Just days before the glass fire broke out, this was a covid19 test site to show you how quickly things can change as this glass fire burst into size. For now reporting live in Sonoma County, Julian Glover, abc7 news. Thank you, julian. We did learn this morning that kentuckys attorney general will comply but just yesterday he opposed the decision in a statement he said, quote, our team has an ethical obligation not to release the recording from the grand jury proceedings adding, quote, we stand by our belief that such a release could compromise the ongoing federal investigation and could have unintended consequences such as poisoning the jury pool. Accused the attorney general of slowing down the case since the beginning. I never had faith in Daniel Cameron to begin with. I knew he had already chosen to be on the wrong side of the law. The moment he wanted, the grand jury to make the decision. The big winners of the stock market this morning, bts. Their music label just went public and i dont think youll be surprised, its a hit. The agency says the safest way to do this is to stay at home and avoid any unnecessary travel. And a list of recommendations includes having a small dinner with only the people who live with you. Having a virtual dinner and sharing recipes with friends and family and shopping online rather than in person on black friday. For some of us, that will be a very small thanksgiving, i guess. Yeah. Because my family its so hard to hear. I know. I mean, some of us havent seen our families since this began and some of us, you know, have family that is pretty up there in years and you get a little worried about them. You want to be with them as much as possible. Wait, let me tell you a very funny, quick story. I called my parents and i said, should phil and i come and visit i have a little time off soon. And my mom said no. Oh, no. They got a lot going on. They have a lot of Health Issues right now and were just trying to keep them safe. She could have prolonged it and said, well see, honey. She could have. No, stay where you are. Hi, mom. Just harsh reality right there. But its the right thing to do, even though it hurts. You can zoom her. Lets take a look at whats going on from the exploratorium camera. Mom always does the right thing, doesnt she . You can see some of the low clouds and smoke that is in the sky. Spare the air through friday. Heat wave continues inland through friday. All of us cooler and cleaner as the weekend unfolds. You could see the winds are not quite as far moving east to west as they were yesterday. Moving more northeast to southwest and that is what is going to drain or push more smoke into our neighborhoods. You can see that omega high is still sitting right on top of us and that is steering anything that will clear us out away. A little bit of fog along the coast and thats it as far as temperatures were in the 70s to nearly 100 again today. Guys, back to you. Okay, mike, thanks.
