It happened yesterday in the Mendocino National forest. A second firefighter is receiving medical attention. The Forest Service has released no other details. This fire has burned 236,000 acres and it is 20 contained. The lnu lightning complex is now 66 contained. More than 375,000 acres have burned in sonoma, napa, lake solano and yellow counties. Some evacuation orders are nowern waings. 5,300 structures threatened and 1 1,200 have been destroyed. Cal fire says the czu lightning complex is burning now 41 contained. Nearly 1,500 structures have been destroyed in that fire. 52 of those in San Mateo County and all the rest are in santa cruz county. Cal fire has lifted all evacuation orders and warnings in Alameda County for the scu lightning complex. In Santa Clara County some orders have been lifted and others have been downgraded to warnings. Destroyed over 383,000 acres. Right now it is 60 contained. It has destroyed 40 structures and damaged 18 others. Well, as firefighters worked to contain the bay area wildfires, there are still weeks of work ahead and it is vital in preventing erosion and la landslides and keeping our waterways clean. Followed crews as they work to repair damage from the scu lightning complex. In the hills southeast of livermore you can see the remains of the scu lightning complex. The second largest fire in california history that just two weeks ago was ravaging the area. With the fire 60 contained, fewer firefighters on the ground and more crews like these. I call it heroes to zeros. The heroes come and stop the fire and the zeros are the planes that come in afterwards to fix it. Reporter dave jensen is cal fire fire repair specialist and a thankless job but one that is important. He and his team are repairing the structural damage that was done in order to fight the fire. We are repairing the dozer lines that might have policy to cause erosion. Reporter this is video of a dozer clearing out the brush that was pushed off to the side in order to create a fire line. The crews also fixed fencing on ranches that they may have had to tear down. Roughly 50 miles of fire line and were at an access line where dozers and water is coming through. Happening at all three lightning complexes burning around the bay area but the size of the scu makes it even more complicated. We have fires like the doms fire a few yrs ago where they had a big mudslide afterwards and that mudslide was caused due to a heavy rain that occurred. Our primary goal here is to prevent that. Officials are expected today to announce that the muni metro subway will not continue service until at least next year is what its looking like. Muni trains return to operation. Service stopped two days later because metal used to connect the overhead wires isnt Strong Enough and is breaking. Transportation director jeffrey said the closure would last for weeks but now it appears the closure will extend through the end of the year. Not at childrens he works as a volunteer firefighter and emt and part of the search and rescue team in big sir where he has a home.
