when my wife died. it's a grief. a shock to the system. >> reporter: the fire was approaching fast and there was little time. >> i do not see 30 minutes more that i could have gotten out of this place. >> reporter: down the road, his neighbor's house in ruins. >> well, it's hard for me to not choke up, you know. particularly somebody you know. i look at this. if she hadn't got out, she wouldn't have made it. >> reporter: this video was taken by the parish family as they escaped the flames. luckily their home was spared. >> we're so thankful that our house made it. we know a lot of other people's homes who didn't make it, so that's, you know, a lot of tears there. >> reporter: in solano county alone, damage from the fire is still being assessed. >> it's still an estimate, but we're over 220 homes that are lost. >> we also have some personal protection equipment packs for you. >> reporter: this was set up in the parking lot of a vacaville church to help folks return safely to their properties. jim farha says he plans to return and rebuild on the mountain. he's feeling lucky to be a survivor. >> so i guess that's what i fall back on. there's somebody above looking after me every day. >> and you're okay. >> yeah. so far. >> reporter: we certainly wish jim the very best. now, tomorrow a local assistance center opens at solano community college to help only ownehomeow recovery and fema assistance. cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> we appreciate your report. now to the scu lightning complex burning in five counties. fire officials gave an update this afternoon on the progress and it is looking good. evacuation orders along the san joaquin and stanislaus county line and in alameda county have been reduced to warnings. an evacuation warning in santa clara county has been lifted completely. the fire has burned more than 374,000 acres and is 40% contained. cal fire officials say the czu lightning complex remained very active overnight. the wildfire has burned more than 83,000 acres and is 29% contained. more than 45,000 people in santa cruz and san mateo counties are under evacuation. crews are three-quarters of the way through damage inspections and are working to repopulate communities. firefighters are concered about next week's warmer temperatures. a fire in monterey county has forced part of highway 1 to close and that's resulted in another economic punch for businesses already struggling due to the pandemic. big sur area restaurants say they're usually crowded this time of year, but now plenty of tables are available. summertime profits usually offset the slower months of the year from any tourist-driven businesses. >> we've had to furlough, re-furlough some people again, some employees. >> we're not just losing right now two weeks of business, we're losing two weeks of -- each day represents the single busiest day in a period of time we could have. >> the dolan fire has burned more than 25,000 acres since it broke out august is race and social justice. today protesters made their stand in tiburon, a city at the center of a recent racial profiling case. abc 7 news was at reed elementary school this afternoon where rows and rows of people called for change. recently a black clothing store owner in tiburon said he felt he was being profiled by police while filling inventory at his store at 1:00 in the morning. the incident helped spark today's event which drew people of all ages and races. the show of activism offered more than a mental exchange, they did a physical workout. >> we push this physical aspect because the more we can go inwards, the more we can bring out our love and express that on the world here. >> there were a few counterprotesters holding up signs on a nearby sidewalk. in the south bay, san jose mayor sam liccardo is responding to vandalism at his home last night. it all happened after a blm protest in the city. the mayor posted this image of the spray painted messages. neighbors helped scrub the walls and the driveway. in a tweet today, he said his neighbors represent the true spirit of the movement. he responded to the vandalism on camera last night. >> it doesn't -- it doesn't have anything to do with the message and it doesn't have anything to do with the movement. it has to do with of a few very irresponsible individuals. >> protesters were otherwise peaceful last night. hundreds marched from city hall through downtown toward san pedro square and some even danced in the streets. police say one person was arrested for a vandalism incident that occurred at city hall. in walnut creek, about a hundred people joined a black lives matter march today. at one point they knelt orrrr blocking traffic. a city councilman said the marchers honored george floyd with a moment of silence that lasted for 8 minutes, 46 seconds. that's the amount of time a police officer knelt on floyd's neck, resulting in his death. several rallies are planned in oakland tonight including a march and vigil at lake merritt later. last night people marched through downtown. hundreds of people attended the march, many peaceful. police say they made more than a dozen arrests, including one person believed to have pointed a laser at an officer and a news crew. there were no reports of fires or broken glass. there were instances, though, of both after a wednesday night protest. and the protests were sparked in part by the police shooting of jacob blake. blake was shot seven times in the back by a kenosha, wisconsin, police officer last weekend. blake's family says he is paralyzed. they held a march in kenosha today. the shooting of blake also prompted nba players this week to refuse to play as an act of protest. playoff games resumed today, one beginning with a moment of silence. and also coming up, monday is the day. governor newsom's new reopening rules go into effect and businesses tell us it's just adding to months of confusion. and i'm meteorologist drew tuma. tracking our air quality very closely today. - i'm szasz. information is something counties will be keeping an eye on this weekend. there is a small chance it could impact the reopening under governor newsom's state guidelines. the new rules impact several things we are focused on as we work to build a better bay area, including the economy. the governor's new system includes four color-coded tiers determined by case numbers and test positivity. even in the most restrictive tier, the governor allows salons and malls to open inside with limited capacity, but the county can decline to allow it. business owners say it has been a confusing process. >> over and over again it's the same situation. i've been ready to open at least, you know, four or five times now and it just hasn't happened. >> the rules go into effect on monday. well, sports has inspiration to adults and kids alike. abc's faith abube has more. >> reporter: cancer robbed the world of another hero. >> what happens now determines what happens to the rest of the world. >> reporter: taking 43-year-old rising hollywood star chadwick boseman, the man who gave human form to marvel's black panther. he died in los angeles surrounded by his wife and family. according to the statement posted to his instagram account, the actor was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2016. the diagnosis advancing to stage 4. colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the u.s. disproportionately affecting black and brown communities. even more remarkable, boseman's family revealing the actor was making movies, starring in spike lee's "da 5 bloods" and playing thurgood marshall during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. >> give me a hand with this, would you? >> reporter: boseman, a south carolina native, worked his way up in the film industry, playing an impressive roster of black icons like jackie robinson in "42." james brown in "get on up." before finding fame in marvel's "black panther." boseman tearing up about this interview about the movie while talking about two fans with terminal cancer. >> and their parents said they just -- they're trying to hold on till this movie comes. comes. and when i found out that they they -- yeah, it means a lot. >> reporter: the stunning news of boseman's death sending social media into shock and grief friday night, some using the actor's death as a reminder of the individual battles many fight silently. and we've got the fog rolling in this evening and we're keeping a close eye on our air quality over the next 24 hours. smoke continues to linger across much of the bay area, thanks to fires mainly in the north part of the state right now. live doppler 7 showing you that fog right up along the coastline spilling into san francisco at this hour. the air quality currently when we take a look at those pm 2.5 levels, that particulate matter in our atmosphere, we've been fluctuating between moderate, which is the yellow colors, from napa to san francisco to redwood city, into that unhealthy for sensitive groups or poor category, that orange color from concord to pleasanton to san jose. now, air quality today is not the worst it has been since the fires have started, but there have been times hour by hour as the air quality fluctuates that you can smell smoke and we'll continue to have this air quality issue tomorrow as well. so the next two days we continue to have a spare the air day in effect today and tomorrow. on average the air quality will remain poor for much of the area on sunday, but by monday we'll see a very slight shift in our winds. that's going to help to alleviate some of the smoke in our atmosphere, so we should have a little bit better of a day, slightly better on monday with air quality more in the moderate range for the majority of your day. the exploratorium camera right now, a live look showing you that fog has settled over the skyline in san francisco. numbers right now with an onshore wind, it is pretty cool along the coast. we're down to 59 in the city. temperatures topped out in the 80s. it's 82 in brentwood, the same in cloverdale. 68 in palo alto, 69 in santa rosa and oakland at 65 degrees. so live doppler 7 along with satellite, the story we're tracking, low pressure off our coastline right now will keep the marine layer intact overnight tonight but that area of low pressure, the way the winds circulate counterclockwise will continue to keep smoke in the bay area. overnight tonight we'll see that fog move in from the coast and spill around the bay shoreline. numbers mainly in the mid-50s. future weather, first thing tomorrow morning when we have a marine layer like we'll have tomorrow morning when the fog is pretty expansive, it can track smoke near the surface. you probably noticed in the morning you can smell the smoke a little bit more than you can in the afternoon and that's what we expect with some of the worst air quality coming tomorrow morning and gradually improving in the afternoon as the fog rose and a little bit of a wind picks up. so tomorrow highs, 60s, 70s around the bay shoreline. our warmest spots in the 80s, if not hitting 90 degrees, so pretty average for this time of the year. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast, spare the air tomorrow. we'll see a warming trend hit us with temperatures on tuesday in the 80s and 90s. and then we'll fluctuate in the mid to low 90s over the next seven days with saturday, that summer spread heading our way once again. what a difference a couple of weeks makes. the last time the a's and astros met, there was a bench-clearing brawl.
