Temperatures anywhere from 92 tuesday, other times mid to upper 90s. So still hot. For the hennessey fire, the winds spiking around 17 Miles Per Hour this evening. So that could cause some issues. The winds are bringing in slightly milder temperatures, 91 tuesday, mid to upper 90s elsewhere. Well look at the santa cruz muntains and the rest of our forecast coming up. Now to breaking news in Solano County, a pg e worker assisting with the lnu complex fire has died. The vacaville based employee was helping First Responders when it happened. We know the flames in Solano County have moved so fast. Amy hollyfield is live with more. Reporter so tragic to hear about this death. The employee was based here in vacaville. Pg e not wanting to release anymore information out of respect for the family. Weve also heard of four civilians who have been injured, those people suffering some burns. The fire activity here in vacaville is calmer this morning. But there is still there are still little fires popping up everyone where around here. You can see them on the hillside, would he have aleve in the streets. So firefighters are carefully watching this area. And they are attacking spot fires on Pleasants Valley road. They didnt want the wind to turn it into an out of control situation. The hennessey fire has been destructive and terrifying. It created a very intense situation on interstate 80 when it jumped the freeway. They had to shut it down. It is open now, we drove through there this morning without any fires. And the fires in the lnu lightning complex have destroyed 105 homes, many of those in vacaville. Evacuation orders are still in place there, but in fairfield, the situation is improving. Some Evacuation Orders were lifted at 1 30 this morning. Police announced that people Live Management peabody, s living in peabody, cement and van den hill areas could return to their homes. But they emphasize the need to all of us to be ready, it is so important for all of us to be packed up, have a plan, be ready to leave at a moments notice pointing out that this threat is not going anywhere. It will be around for a while. Amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. And several School Districts in Sonoma County have canceled Distance Learning today because of the fire danger. In Solano County, office of education has suspended Distance Learning for the rest of the ll be closed and all east bay. S parks not near the shoreline are also closed. Fire officials do have an update on the czu lightning compl complex. Lets listen in. Czu stands for the cal fire unit on the peninsula. We also have the lnu complex in the north bay, that is cal fire in the north bay. Sonoma lake napa. And scu, that is the santa clara unit. So there are questions about how we name our fires. These are named traditionally because this is the result of a lightning complex. With that, just some numbers to share this morning about what occurred overnight. The fire is now at 40,000 acres, there is still 0 containment on the fire. We can confirm that we do have 20 structures destroyed and the damage inspection teams will again go out there today and try to validate with better location and are information about any additional structures. Currently we have 8600 structures that are actively threatened by the fire. And we believe we have over 20,000 people total that have been evacuated or in an evacuation area of the fire. With that, we still hold at 591 firefighters assigned to the incident. And for a situation update from the operations section, ill introduce chief brenton. Good morning. Weve had Significant Developments within the past 12 hours since our last press conference. Fire was very active yesterday are. Overnight it became even more active. And we had significant burning conditions that are unprecedented and unseen by veteran firefighters overnight. The areas that were mt stda w on al thradpproachf thefire. He eriff able to get those people safely evacuated and engaged in active Fire Suppression around the community of davenport. That is still ongoing as we speak. To the north, there are still fires progressing through into San Mateo County in pescade and threatening la honda. We expect more activity in those communities today. Overnight additionally, significant event was the fire at empire ridge road and made it extremely active run of critical fire conditions across empire ridge road, threatened the other strusk structureses on the eastern slope of that ridge and moving down into the communities of border creek and ben lomond. We already had active evacuation warnings and orders in those areas to evacuate. They are evacuated overnight. And fire is continuing to threaten those communities and continuing to move into the is an loren toe valley. As we are again very limit order our resources to be able to combat the fire, toe valley. As we are again very limit order our resources toe able to responders, firefighters and law enforcement. As part of that, we have been very active in our evacuations and the sheriff can speak to those specifically. But what we ask is to help us ent and fire theimotaw hi tha we ts i safety and thee First Responders. If you are asked to evacuate, evacuate. Do not wait. We encountered last evening and throughout the day yesterday areas that were under Evacuation Order, people remained as per their right, but it put the Public Safety and safety of our First Responders in jeopardy. We ask that you please do not do that. When you are asked evacuate, please evacuate. It will be an active firefight today and for the coming days again with the conditions that were experiencing that are unprecedented and with the resources that were lacking, we ask you to help us to help you to do our jobs and keep the public safe. Thank you. Speaking next a unified incident commander, chief deputy chris clark. Im with the santa cruz Sheriffs Office. I want to touch on what happened yesterday and what were continuing to do and really some things for the public to know and be aware of. For one, just touching on last night, to give you kind of a breakdown of what occurred, essentially an organized evacuation of all communities there brookdale through ben lomond and including lapico. It involved 160 officers, and somebody asked about numbers. And i want to give just a rough estimate of what that looks like in terms of the been evacuated and really the thousands of homes that our folks have contacted so far. So boulder creek, about 7200 residents there. Ben lomond, about 7800. About ru roughly about 25,000 people so far that are under an Evacuation Order and thousands of homes that our folks have gone out and attempted to make contact with the with the residents. What does reverse 911 lookithth. What does reverse 911 look like. One is through the integrated public alert system or ipas. If you have a cellphone, if you are in a specific area, an alert goes out on your cellphone. And so that will tell you, hey, you need to leave. Your area is under a mandatory Evacuation Order. The second is through locally here a program called code red. He ck you can download it scr 911. Org, there is a link there, you can download this to your cellphone and it will give you local information similar to what ipas is putting out. And if you have a land line, reverse 911 will company to your land line. And the other thing i want to talk about, if i have family here, like what do i need to be doing now. If you havent been evacuated yet, and ive said this numerous times, please, please, please, now more than ever, people need to be aware of what is going on and based on the changing nature of this fire and staying in tune with social media, with cal fire, checking their website and then obviously and acting on those orders. So what to do if i havent been evacuated yet. Get Important Documents together, get heirlooms together, make sure that you have people to drive your car or have an ability to be able to leave. Finding out is there someplace can i stay. Can i stay with a Family Member out of the area. And if you cant, then there are shelter locations that are available. And i want to provide that number one more time because if you are evacuated, there are places for you to go if you dont have a friend or a loved one to go stay with. And that phone number is 8662722237. If you are evacuated, and you didnt have a place to go, 8662722237. So i want to talk about hard closures really quickly. This is extremely important. If you have been advantage bee based on the fire activity and allowing fire to get to where they need to go, there really isnt a reason to go back. Those areas are under closures personlo be able to go in there and potentially do rescues if we have to and allow cal fire to get to where they need to go. One other thing. If the area has been evacuated, what now in terms of us. So obviously security is important and well be doing roaming patrols. A lot of us live in this area as well. So conducting security throughout these evacuated areas is a top priority. And also evacuating those areas under the mandatory Evacuation Order. And i couldnt stress more the importance of leaving when those orders come out. I really cant. There are people that are unaccounted for, that we are looking to try to determine where they are. And so i stress that because with this fire, you just dont know how things are going to go. We operate under the best intelligence that cal fire provides based on how this fire is acting. And we will do our absolute very best to make sure that you and your family are informed and if an order goes out, again, it is for a good reason and you need to leave. So i couldnt stress that more. So stay tuned, please monitor are cal fire, monitor social media and continue to stay uptodate. Thank you. So this incident is burning in a large area in twoesd comma San Mateo County, cal faiire, santa cruz. A lot of agencies involved. And speaking next from San Mateo County Sheriffs Office is the coastal captain. Sal lucas. Good morning. Currently we have approximately 320 homes and 1100 residents that have been rack 80sed. There is an Evacuation Center at the Half Moon Bay high school within the city of Half Moon Bay. Originally it was at pescadero high school, that was moved a of yesterday. The address is 1 lewis foster in the city of Half Moon Bay. We have multiple road closures as was mentioned. And we have numerous mandated evacuation zones with a significant amount oforridor area toscero. Loselyitur resours conducting safety checks. If you want uptodate information, it will be at smt sheriff for all social media platforms. We also have an alert system which is an opt in system. Smc alert. So anybody who is interested in getting real time alerts and warnings, those will be issued via our eoc at the county. Thank you. The final speaker for Cal Fire Incident Commander Team three is the chief. Youve heard a lot about evacuations and i want to speak to that just a little bit more the incident right now 40,000 acres over just the last 12 hours, that has increased 10,000 acres or 15,000 acres from what we reported 1800 last night. The fire has potential to have Significant Growth over the next 48 hours additional. Based on the current weather patterns and past firer were witnessing. Well be aggressive with our Evacuation Orders today. Well get out ahead of this. We have very limited firefighting resources. All the fires in Northern California and Southern California along with all the Incident Management Teams are strapped right now. The Emergency Response capability here in california have been pushed to their extent. It takes time to get outside resources in. There are numerous fires burning throughout california that has affected tens of thousands of the populism here in the state. So our number one priority is all your safety. We want to make sure we get you out as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible to allow our First Responders in there safely so we can point protect and mitigate as much as possible and as quickly as possible. So again, please Pay Attention to the evacuation warnings and orders. We will be aggressive. There is going to be a lot of movement over the next 30 hours of asking people to leave. And i strongly suggest please leave. That is for your safety and for the safety of my personnel working on this incident. Thank you. Many to ophappy to open it u answer any questions. So right now were just getting an update from the officials over the complex firet itsow cment a thi point. They are going out today to validate anymore structures that have been destroyed. 8600 have been actively threatened. And when they talked about evacuations, they said that 20,000 maybe even up to 25,000 have been evacuated or are in an evacuation area and they stress just how important it is that if they ask you to evacuate, you need to evacuate. This is for everyones safety. For those fighting the fires, for people in that area. And they ask that you help them help you. So if you are asked to evacuate in that area, leave, did not go back, they will be patrolling the area for people who are concerned about their houses. But they said this is an active firefight at least the next 48 hours. So if you have been asked to evacuate, you need to do so. And i think the important number here is how big this fire got overnight. Last night it was at 25,000 acres and this morning were hearing 40,000 acres. So that is a significant jump. And as you just heard from cal fire, they dont have enough resources, they are not going to get more resources from the state. They are pushed to the limit. And all they can do right now is do what they can with their current number of people which is about 600 firefighters and wait to see if they will get an influx of support from other state agencies. So that is the situation right now for those who are in Santa Cruz County and San Mateo County. And as you can probably get from the tone of what the cal fire officials are saying, this is a firefight that is out of control still and today seems like it will be another rough day for them. And we heard from cal fire, there is the potential for this fire to still grow exponentially. We had a very grim and ominous tone as they laid down what is at stake here saying when you hear that you need to evacuate, you need to do so quickly. And we want to show you video of what we saw overnight, the town of obonny doon dealing with touh flames, it engulfed several homes there. And we want to talk about some of the Evacuation Orders. Some 22,000 people already under that order. San gregorio all the way south to davenport, all of those folks have been told to evacuate and you heard from cal fire that the evacuations that happened this davenport happened very quicklq. And we also heard from cal fire that their resources have been pushed to their extent. I want you to listen into what they had to say when it comes to those evacuations. With this fire, you just dont know how things will go. We operate under the best intelligence that cal fire provides based on how this fire is acting. So we will do our absolute very best to make sure that you and your family and everyone is informed and if an order goes out, again, it is for a good reason and you need to leave. Reporter another remarkable note that we heard from these veteran firefighters is that there will be a lot of movement over the next 30 hours. Me evacuations in play be a soon. We heard about how they are getting people out, going door to door, also doing the reverse 911 calls sending out push alerts to people in the affected areas so they know they need to evacuate. Also hitting up the Traditional Land lines. 8600 structures being threatened at this hour, but again, the headline, this fire here in santa cruz and san mateo counties exploding to 40,000 acres. Julian glover, abc 7 news. And this map that is posted by the santa cruz Sheriffs Office shows the evacuation zones. As we said, there are mandatory evacuations, you can see that in the red. From davenport south to the city limits. And also through the northern part of the county including boulder creek, bonny doon and north coast, residents of ben lomond and lapico were ordered to evacuate late last night. On the peninsula, there are also evacuations. It includes the areas on the screen. And in Solano Solano coucou learned overnight a pg e worker has died as he was helping First Responders. And Amy Hollyfield is live in vacaville with the latest on this. Reporter so much tragedy from these fires. Many homes destroyed here on Pleasants Valley road where the fire gist moved just moved in s now tragically a death on the fire lines. Pg e released a statement saying that vacaville based troubleman passed away while assisting First Responders as they dealt with the lnu complex fire. Out of respect for the familys privacy, we wont be sharing Additional Details this fire has destroyed 105 homes and is threatening more. Yesterday it jumped interstate 80 headed toward fairfield causing more evacuations. In a freeway that freeway is open now. And Evacuation Orders in vacaville are still in place, but the situation is improving. And in fairfield, some Evacuation Orders were lifted. And that order coming at 1 30 this morning. Officers are keeping an eye on vacaville. Police say they are on the lookout for possible looters in this area that has been evacuated saying that group on dirt bikes were spotted going through here, possibly to loot. And 20 separate fires burning in five counties make up the scu lightning complex fire. And they have torched more than 100,000 acres in steep rugged terrain. And it has brought a number of evacuation warnings and orders, but it has also caused evacuation confusion for a lot of residents. So here is why. Last night san jose councilman tweeted if you live along piedmont road, you are safe. The danger zone has not expanded to that area yet. I know some of you may have received Text Messages calling you to evacuate, but those messages are not precise, do non orders arent painting a clear picture of who needs to leave. Are you talking about us, how far up the mountain are we talking . That makes it really hard for the residents up here to really understand how close the fire is, how urgent it is. There are three Evacuation Centers for people who have been impacted by the scu lightning complex fire. The Creek Side Middle School in pal patterson and the high school in morgan hill and the milpitas library. And you can follow the fires with our exclusive wildfire tracker. Helena and napa so you can get an idea of what people are experiencing. We have a full closure on eastbound and westbound 28 between silverado trail and monticello road. And circled this area because all of those city streets are closed except to First Responders and media crews, this is where Amy Hollyfield is. There is also smoke in the area. 80s open. And the largest closure, highway 1 between pescadero and the santa cruz city limits. That has really expanded from yesterday because the fire has spread. And then also a full closure of highway 9 between 34 and ben lomond. So this will impact People Living in this area and trying to evacuate. So hopefully people are out of the area. And as we take a live look in san jose showing you 101, we are also going to be closely watching the air and you can see the e yyyy the sky. And mike, i saw your tweet about the unhealthiest air in the world. Santa cruz mountains, i saw a reading on purple air. Com, well over 700. The scale is supposed to stop at 500. But there are some subtle changes out there in the form of the seabreeze that is undercutting the heat and some of the unhealthy air at the lowest levels of the atmosphere which is where were breathing. You can see 12, 13 Miles Per Hour winds at sfo and oakland out of the north to northwest. And they are bringing theare layer with it. You can see the smoke off in the background, so not everybody will clear out today. If you step out right now, mid fifrts 50s to mid60s. Vacaville, 62, we were in the mid 70s yesterday. Winds will pick up this afternoon. Well be in double digits. And the temperatures will hang out mainly in the mid to upper 90s the next seven days. As far as up around lake berryessa, we were in the 80s yeeven a 61 around st. Helena. Winds will pick up here also this afternoon. And look at these temperatures mainly mid to upper 90s and for the santa cruz mountains, well have the winds at a very light now but get aggressive today and even more aggressive through the week. Yesterday it was really busy at the berryessa Sporting Goods shop. It is part gas station, convenient store. And vke evacuees have been stop there. I think weve had over 200 people top in already in just three hours. And we talked to a woman at the gas station who was towing a horse trailer heading into the evacuation zone. She and her father rescued two horses from her sisters home on Pleasants Valley road. Police let them through with an escort of Animal Service officers. This is Matt Matt Matt see the wind is whipping up the fire that swirled all around him. He recorded this dash cam video while driving along digger pine ridge road. Visibility was poor because of the thick smoke and ash in the air. Governor newsom says the state has a world dallas mutual aid system in place but he says the scope and magnitude of the fires were seeing right now has become a major challenge. Quite literally people come from all over the world to this building to learn about the california example. But this is the point youre making. We are experiencing fires the likes of which we havent seen in many, many years. The governor also said californians have done a good job of conserving power during our heat wave and a common in demand last night made rolling blackouts unnecessary. And at the live desk, there are other headlines this morning. Unfortunately, we have disappointing news. The u. S. Labor Department Released the latest weekly jobs report and it is not what they expected. 1. 1 million new unemployment claims were filed last week, that is higher than economists forecast of 920,000. Service may be suspended until election day in november when voters can weigh in on a proposition to keep workers as independent contractors. The state won a temporary injunction that could force ube and lyft to reclassify drivers as employees as early as tomorrow. The mayors of san jose and san diego do not want San Francisco based uber and lyft to pause operations. As leaders of the second and Third Largest cities in california, they are urging a judge to delay enforcing the law. They want state leaders and Ridesharing Companies to come together and negotiate a solution to avoid a shutdown. In a joint statement they said being forced into a situation where shutting down service is the only viable option hurts everyone at a viable moment when we need to pull together to help californians make ends meet. A lot happening this morning, but mike, lets check in with you because we want to know what these winds might be like for those firefighters out there and for us trying to just breathe. Good news. Ave slightly goody noy here is a look from tam where it is not nearly as hot as yesterday. So the unhealthy air easing for some of us but not all. Temperatures still above average through next week and im still watching a chance of thunderstorms sunday night into monday. I want to go back to yesterday and look at what the seabreeze did, look at all that smoke being pushed to the east. They came back this morning and so did the seabreeze. So it is helping clear out a little bit in a few areas and it is also bringing our temperatures down. Low to mid80s through the south bay, low to mid90s in los ga s gatos, morgan hill and gilroy. Low 80s for thepensula. Lo lo t and low to mid70s for sausalito 78. Low to mid60s at at breezy coastline.
