Lets take a look at some of the top covid19 headlines. Today is the second day that many San Mateo County businesses have to stay closed. This follows the county being on the states watch list for an increase in cases for three straight days. Haywards covid19 testing site will move to the sky west golf course, it opens at 9 00 this morning. And Governor Newsom plans to provide a live believing on californias response to the pandemic at noon. Part of our commitment to building a better bay area includes focusing on education. And this morning many schools are coming to terms awith the fact that they will have to start the next school year with distance learning. Closing the Digital Divide is more important now than ever so every student can learn online. Julian glover is live with what san jose is doing to keep kids connected. Really a big step forward in helping close that Digital Divide in san jose. Again, getting Internet Access to the students who need it most. The city will be announcing a new partnership with at t that will get wifi hot spots into the hands of 11,000 students in is an th san jose. The focus will be providing these devices to k through 12 students and families most in need within our community. The city also plans to experiment with some outdoor wifi at libraries, Community Centers and parks. And we know the help is crucial. Only three out of four homes in california are estimated to have broadband Internet Access and only one in two homes on the lower end of the increase scale in the state have high speed Internet Access according to the Public Policy institute of california. Right now it is unclear how quickly the students will be able to get the hot spots, if they can have them for the beginning of classes in a few weeks. But the good news here, help is on the way. So we could see flooding because of that. And then we could have the wind damage because that is a very densely populated area of trees and there are also pine trees which are shallow rooted and fall easily. So the carolinas, even though it is a Tropical Storm, they will have tornadoes to deal with also. Back here at home, we have a full moon and 58 in san ramon. Some 70s around pittsburg and antioch. Mainly mid50s to low 60s across mog of o most of our neighborhoods. Well have gusty breaches at ea around the bay. And look at the winds pick up this afternoon and get us to near 70 and sunshine. Sunny and 81 at noon and near 90 at 4 00, and 73 at 8 00. And east bay, well have temperatures in the 60s through 10 00, and mid to upper 70s for the afternoon hours. And neighbors in petaluma are split after two black educators were laid off from their positions at a private catholic high school. The educators say they were racially discriminated against. Meanwhile the principal says that they were two of four people let go because of the budget. Our goal is not to barb the school in any way. The purpose is to better the school. Reporter that from Kinyatta Reynolds who was recently laid off as pe teacher at st. Vincent depaul high school. Her lawyer says reynolds and also joanna paun were discriminated against. We are alleging claims of race discrimination, harassment and retaliation against the diocese. I am a counselor, and i was the only one in my department. Kinyatta was the only black teacher. Reporter sunday a rally was held outside the Saint Vincent depaul church, protesters showed up days after a letter was written by School Alumni condemning the firings as discriminatory. And counterprotesters also showed up to support the school. Video was also made by parents and students supporting the school. Principal patrick daly addressed the situation with us on sunday. Race played no part in the playoff of four individuals. At all. It came primarily down driven by the decision with reduction in revenue and it was a necessary move to reduce our administration. Reporter daly has led the school for the past three years, and says that about 10 of their 30 total employees are minorities. Before i got there, we did not have a black student on our campus. And this freshman class, we had roughly 11 of our students that were black, africanamerican. And so we have a real focus on that.
