In covid19 cases spike, Health Officials are now requiring new changes for Outdoor Dining and churchings. Some cities in Alameda County are pushing back and proceeding with Outdoor Dining after the county said they were not allowed to. It was a hot afternoon today. But were tracking hotter temperatures for your sunday. Well have the details in the accuweather forecast. Abc 7 news at 11 00, starts right now. Building a better bay area for a safe and secure future. This is abc 7 news. Good evening. Thanks for joining us. Im eric thomas. And im dion lim. More concerning numbers tonight with the surge of coronavirus cases in california. More than 8,000 new cases are being reported in the state. The number of deaths, also, is trending upward. The Positivity Rate over the past two weeks continues to rise. The sudden spike in cases has led to more dialing back of reopening plans in the bay area. In Alameda County, there is confusion tonight after restaurants were abruptly told to stop Outdoor Dining because the county did not have a variance. Abc 7 News Reporter Laura Martinez tells us some cities are pushing back, and letting people eat outside, anyway. This weekend, cities in Alameda County shut down streets to expand Outdoor Dining but the county issued a curve ball. To get a press release, not an official order, but a press release, late friday night, is really very inconsistent and very unfair to the businesses that had really made a significant investment. That press release, the Alameda County Public Health department issued stated, quote, we learned the state issued updated guidance, dated july 9th, prohibiting Outdoor Dining in nonvariance counties, including Alameda County. But some city leaders are saying that is not a legal order, and are proceeding with the street closures to allow Outdoor Dining. Weve planned to close 1st street. We are not going to change those plans because those plans, as i understand it, are still consistent with the legal orders that are in place. Like livermore, the city of heyward said they are going through with the street closure event as planned and will support local restaurants who choose to participate. Three City Council Members even visited restaurants to give their personal support. Mike salinas did come and other members of the city as well. And they dropped off different gifts and just gave verbal support. Around the corner at playt restaurant and bar, this was the first time Michael Leblanc opened for the First Time Since the pandemic. I didnt know if i was going to open up today until, maybe, 3040 minutes beforehand. He said the countys press release absolutely caused confusion. He spent a lot of money preparing for this. We bought food. Bought extra food. I kind of changed the menu up a little bit. Im hoping that the city, state, county, they all get together. Based on what happened this weekend and we have some clear guidelines as we go into next week. The states guidance prohibits Outdoor Dining in nonvariance counties, which includes Alameda County. The county said they are obtaining variance from the state and its on the agenda for tuesdays board of supervisors meeting. Elsewhere in Alameda County, Restaurant Owners struggled to comply with the new orders today. Many were caught off guard where local leaders just converted two traffic lanes into Outdoor Dining and shopping zones. The states order left many here furious.
