It is the nations first stand alone museum of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender history. To expand is put on hold because of the impacts on the novel coronavirus. At just under 1600 square feet the museum is small. It tells the 150year history of lgbt. We have a huge collection. When covid hit, we were in the midst of negotiating a lease for a much larger space. Reporter the plans to expand are now on hold. The public funding fell through. Clearly, were in a recession right now, and we werent in a position to launch a campaign. Reporter the museum is reevaluating its future disappointed but eager to tell the stories of lgbt people. The museum is still open virtually currently featuring an exhibit about gilbert baker. He was the creator of the gay flag, the rainbow flag. Reporter it highlights artwork and talks about his contribution to gay culture its a celebration of the flag he made first displayed at San Franciscos pride parade in 1978.
