You can imagine sitting at home not being able to drive all this time . That is about to change. Empty parking lot right now here at the dmv, but that should change in the next few hours when they open at 8 00 a. M. Here is something to note, if your test was canceled, the dmv will automatically reschedule it, and incar driving tests will resume today. If you are the driver, you must wear a face covering. Drivers will also have to answer a screening test. At least two windows in the car will be lowered. And instructors will have to limit their incar activity and instructors will wear protective gear and the seat and floor board will be cuffovered. And they will increase the number of tests that they are doing each day and in some locations they are adding saturday tests. Because of that, you can expect a shortened test route in many locations. Silver lining is that much more examiners are being brought on to handle the backlog. Also important to note, if your permit has expired, you will have to fill out a brand new on line application and you will hae to show up 30 minutes before your appointment. And developing news this morning, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus is exploding at san quentin prison. May 31, there were zero. June 14, 48. And a week ago, there were 499. At last check, there are 523 active cases among inmates. At least 73 employees have also tested positive. J. R. Stone spoke with multiple inmates. I want to start by saying that for safety purposes, we are not revealing the names of the inmates that i talked with. They have been convicted of serious crimes, yes, but are now involved with their own Health Battles as they go up against coronavirus. Covid19 cases arent just on the rise at san quentin state prison, they are soaring according to inmates that i spoke with. In an interview thursday, one told us they said only five cases, then it went to 15, then 25, and now were at over 500. In havent been any c there havent been any confirmed deaths at the prison, but 71yearold on death row tied wednesday nighdit wednesday night. The cause has not been given, but inmates said he had covid19 symptoms. And they believe the rise in cases could have been prevented. One man telling me that it boggles my mind that they would take prisoners from the most infected prison and take them here. Inmates telling us that guards are being rotated from infected areas to uninfected areas daily. There is even a surge of cases on death row. And an inmate telling us on thursday alone, prison alarms sounded at least five times, each time an inmate transferred to the medical area. One man saying i wear a mask in the cell. I wear gloves handling stuff. I wash my hands religiously and still somehow my test came back positive and i never felt any symptoms. Online there has been mixed reaction to news of the san quentin outbreak. Christina bell saying i feel bad for the guard, but i hope the prisoners experience the same hell they inflicted on others. Those i talked with acknowledge those opinions saying we know were not here for pretty things, but were also not here to be tortured to death and tortured on a daily basis. Again, for safety reason, im not identifying those inmates that i spoke with. I can tell you that these are people who are Family Members here in the bay area and Family Members who are very concerned about them. They are hoping for additional help. J. R. 120estone, abc 7. Someone in the group had covid19. Now the virus has spread to 18 Family Members. Ron tells us that this party was for his daughterinlaw. He did not attend but knows many people who did. He says through contact tracing, he discovered that seven people got coronavirus at the Birthday Party and later spread to other Family Members. His father is in the hospital. My dad is hanging on by a thread. They are in there by themselves with no family, you know. And it is just heartbreaking. The east Side Union High School District is terminating a contract with the citys police department. The superintendent says there hasnt been enough activity to warrant having officers in schools. The district has set aside 700,000 for security in the coming school year. Students and parents spoke out about removing officers during a Virtual Meeting last night.
