Reporter this is sky 7 over the scene around noon on the Golden Gate Bridge. A peaceful march and powerful turnout, one that the 17yearold coorganizer behind the protest did not expect at all. Literally this came together in less than 24 hours. My friend made fliers and we just pushed them out. We posted them all over social media. And it just blewilledthe roa honestly all these protesters inspired i feel like the whole youth as a whole. This whole generation we are really speaking out and speaking up for each other and fighting for equality and it is a beautiful thing. Reporter on the ground, our own liz kreutz was on the bridge and witnessed some drivers getting out to cheer on protesters. It was awesome. The energy was crazy. People were just united, same goal. We want to End Police Brutality but also we want systemic change, you know. Black lives matter if getting from point a to point b is more important than preventing countless people of color from dying and being wrongfully imprisoned, you know, just excluded from financial progress, then you need to think of priorities. Reporter dozens of Police Officers were present but no confrontations. Were here to fight for justice. Were not here to fight. Reporter tiana day who organized the protest with her sister was also there with her dad. They told me theyre serious about systemic change. They plan to start a nonprofit and raise money for scholarships for black youth. Thousands of people came out for Racial Justice around the bay area today. In San Francisco hundreds of people filled Mission Street marching to the Mission Street police station. Some officers surrounding the station stood, others chose to kneel. Hundreds more marched in downtown mill valley shouting i cant breathe and no justice, no peace through their masks. In the east bay occupy hayward held a protest in front of hayward city hall. Union Members Around the bay enstk forr ho of ncco9ers stadiumes othesed other unions held the position for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the same amount of time george floyd was held down by a Police Officer before he died. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick gained National Attention for taking a knee during the National Anthem to protest racism. Nfl commissioner Roger Goodell now says the nfl was wrong for not listening to players earlier. And in the north bay thousands of people filled the streets of mill valley to protest Police Brutality and systemic racism. Abc 7 news was downtown where that march began and continued down miller avenue. People we spoke with had the same sentiment, that its about time. Its long overdue. I think its great to see people stepping up and stepping out of their comfort zone. Black lives are in danger under this justice and judicial system. I am just enraged. One person we spoke with said she was pleasantly surprised that so many people showed up. In the east bay a church in dublin hosted a Prayer Service for peace, justice and safety during these difficult times. Dozens gathered in the parking lot and parade for justice for black People Killed by police, for the end to violence during protests and for safety for Police Officers. Who put the se together said it is important to pray rather than argue and debate. Church has to stand up, believers have to stand up and say this is not right. We will pray through it, we will fight against the racism. Prayers were held in multiple small groups throughout the Church Campus to allow for social distancing. The city of santa clara and its police force are taking action. The citys mayor and police chief posted a video this morning announcing they are going to look at making changes and invited the publics input. We are committing to four actions. First, we will review our police use of force policies. Second, we will engage our community in the discussion. Third, we will report our findings and seek feedback from our community. Fourth, to redefine public safety, we will reform any policies necessary. Earlier this week the mayor signed an Initiative Led by former president barack obama to review and revise use of force policies. In solano county, diners can eat indoors but tables are six feet apart and people can attending indoor religious services. Abc 7 news was at st. Elizabeth Seaton Catholic church which is resuming services ride now. We watched yesterday as father thomas diaz used tape to mark the pews for social distancing. Hes going to conduct a normal service but there wont be any music. The order allows for a maximum of 100 people inside a building for religious services. The third county relaxing restrictions is on the peninsula. San mateo county now allows outdoor sitdown dining at restaurants. Libraries can also reopen for curbside pickup. You can schedule a pickup online at any of the 12 libraries. Charter boats will be allowed to operate once again. More reopenings are just days away. Next friday schools, day camps and campgrounds can reopen with specific modifications. Bars, gyms and pro sports have the green light to open next friday as well. California will be giving specific guidance in the days ahead. It is also expected to spell out rules for hotels, casinos, museums and zoos. Double duty for some police in san jose last night. This sideshow just one of two simultaneous events that officers had on the move. And ahead, a look at a moment of solidarity during a tense encounter. You dont see any active flames, just smoke and retardant. The fire did come awfully close to home so its a tremendous relief. The fire damaged one building, but the latest word, crews are getting the upper hand and may have gotten the upper hand. Hundreds got active together at lake merritt for a peace and wellness run. People wore black as a symbol for the black lives matter movement. Organizers say the run was not only to promote mental and physical health but also to honor george floyd and other black People Killed by Police Brutality. To the south bay where San Jose Police declared an Unlawful Assembly to break up a large crowd overnight during sideshows. Sideshows came at about the same time protesters took to the streets at city hall. People threw fireworks and other explosives at them. We were seeing the sideshows and cars spinning doughnuts. Its not a safe situation. We still have a responsibility to keep the public safe and that includes everything out here at city hall. Even if youre protesting, we wouldnt be able to justify just sitting back and watching while those cars spin doughnuts and maybe hit somebody and kill them. There were no reports of any injuries or arrests. During the protests, some officers even took a knee with demonstrators to show their support. Now, things start to really shift on monday. The winds ease. High pressure starts to build and temperatures start to climb. Well see a warmer day overall. Well start to see some upper 80s in some of the inland areas. Tuesday even warmer. Hot inland, in the 90s, and then wednesday will be the warmest day for most everyone.
