But we decided that my partner and i and my wife, we would go in the restaurant once a week, we would treat it like a Grocery Store for all our staffmembers, and they could come in and pick up food and we would give it to them so they could kind of get through this crisis. Six flag amusement parks are planning to reopen, but before guests return they will first have to make online reservations, and no dates have been announced. As communities push to reopen, there is more evidence of how important social distancing guidelines may be. I spoke earlier with dr. Alok patel. Dr. Patel, so much concern over how easily the coronavirus can spread. We have a new study this morning. Researchers found a person talking loudly in a confined space can generate 1,000 droplets containing the virus, and those droplets can linger in the air for eight minutes. Your reaction, and what does it tell you about the precautions we should take . We know there are loud talkers everywhere. What this kind of tells us is something we were already worried about, the ability for droplets to hang out in space. We used to only talk about droplets with coughing or sneezing. What these researchers showed is droplets are generated every time we talk, in different sizes. Just general loud speech can have these droplets lingering in the air up to eight minutes. They had someone sit in a special container and say stay healthy for 25 seconds. And they saw these droplets lingering around almost 10 minutes. This is something to think about when we reopen society. In an enclosed space, a place with different types of ventilation, an elevator, stairwell, a bathroom. This doesnt mean these droplets are necessarily going to get everyone infected or they have virus in them, but again, we have to be cautious, maintain that social distancing, that physical distancing, and wear masks. Another big headline involves the rapid covid19 test being used at the white house. Its made by abbott. A preliminary study found the test may miss 48 of positive cases. Again, its an early study, needs more review, but that is a big number. An abbott spokesperson said these are not consistent with other studies. Considering this is the test used by the president of the United States and other leaders in the government, are you concerned about these results . Im definitely concerned. Even if the test results the study was not done perfectly and had inherent errors, 48 is a really high number. Previous studies have shown a false negative rate somewhere between 10 and 15 . We already knew some people may test negative and then test positive because the sample itself might not have enough viral particle in it. This tells us a machine were really relying on to give us rapid tests could generate a higher number of false negatives than we thought, and thats false reassurance. To be fair, it hasnt been peer reviewed. Hopefully well get a better sense of what this negative rate is going to be. I dont think anyone suspects its going to be zero, but we need to have a clear idea what were working with. The antimalaria drug, hydroxychloroquine, is back in the news. Theres word using zinc with the drug could have positive results in treating covid19. How important is this finding . This is the first time that scientists and doctors have compared the use of hydroxychloroquine and erythromycin with those two drugs and zinc. The thought is zinc might have a synergistic quality. Its possible these guys working together can get patients healthier. In their study they looked at patients admitted in the past, over 900, compared them, they found that people taking all three of those medications had a 44 less chance of dying and were more likely to leave the hospital. It didnt change how long they were in the hospital or how long they were on a ventilation system. But scientists do admit the study needs to be done again randomized, get people on these different medications, and watch them in time so we have a better idea. Thank you, dr. Patel. Thank you, dr.
