Overnight the Senate Unanimously passing the stimulus bill meant to help the economy recover from the covid19 outbreak. The aye are 96 and the 60 vote threshold being achieved, the bill is passed. Reporter as part of that bill, the government will send people earning 75,000 or less a 1,200 check plus 500 per child. Those earning up to 99,000 a year will get a smaller check. Checks will go out on april 6th. It could take four or five weeks to reach those who will get it by mail and those that get direct deposit could get it sooner. Also money in the bill to help states and hospitals. But there is one sliver of hope. Extreme social distancing measures may be working. Most bay area counties have decided to extend the Current School closures through may 1st. Its been 11 days since most of them shut down to stop the spread of coronavirus. In oakland that means the districts 50,000 students will continue to stay home with their families. San francisco officials announced the same length closure for the citys 57,000 Public School students. Closed schools are a challenge for students in some districts and more affluent areas a High Percentage of students have access to wifi and computers and laptops at the house. But in places like oakland, a lot of students do not. Governor newsom is making it clear young people should not treat School Closures like they are on summer vacation. Understand physical distancing more than they understand social distancing. For the younger folks out there, physically separate from others and strangers. Dont mix. We can bend the curve. We can defeat this virus. Lets meet this moment. Lets follow through. Governor newsom says so far 51 of confirmed patients in the state are between the ages of 18 and 49.
