Not to replace your doctor but one thing you can do is take a ball, a massage ball. Tennis ball at home. Home hack. You put it against the side of your neck. Lots of muscles, scalene and trapezius, breathe in and out to get your parasympathetic system going and you bring your other hand out and then you slowly move your head down. Then you go back up and massage it. Breathe in, out, and back down. What happens is youre warming up the muscles and increase your rank of motion so a very easy thing to do at home. I like it. Sciatic pain. So, sciatic pain is common. More than 3 million cases a year. Basically its your sciatic is the biggest nerve in your body and runs from your lower back to legs. What you want to do is open up the space. Imagine your spinal column is like this. Your sciatic nerve comes in like this. Sometimes theres impingement. This spinal stretch opens up and frees the space against your nerve so it opens up. Once again, this is not the answer for everything but at home you go from side to side. Usually have sciatica on one side. Usually not both but it opens up that space in your lower back. Did you ever think youd be stretching your legs on National Television . Youre doing great. Lets talk about a home remedy for foot pain. So this is before we get there, this is the second part of the sciatica. It gives you pain here to your feet. Sometimes your hamstring, nice quads but sometimes your hams get very tight and so you do a nice dorsiflexion and lower your your hip. Slowly stretch to the point where it hurts and frees up your hamstring, a tight hamstring is a result of sciatica. Foot pain. The plantar fascia connects your heel to your toes. Its underneath the sole of your foot and so one way beyond stretching is to actually studies show load up pressure. So we have a backpack here to give us more weight. We can add books or weights as you get better. You want to go up, hold it for two seconds and go all the way down. Going down is the eccentric contraction and both up slowly, down, it helps strengthen and stretch the plantar fascia which is that tight band that causes heel pain under the sole of your feet. As you get better you add more weight. Studies show adding weight can help us. A lot of us have anvils at home so thats convenient. A massage we can do for the knee. Yeah, so all kinds of things that cause knee pain. Let me show you real fast. People tend to focus you want my knee . Yeah. I was confused. People feel knee pain here. However sometimes its your quads that are causing it. So one thing you can do is a rhythmic beat, start up here and go down here, then you go down to the side. Your wife okay with this. Then you go down the side. Thats one thing you can do. The other thing is whats called a nice deep gliding motion and start at the top and come down, you do it coming in the front, the side and the medial aspect and this will free up a lot of the pain in the knee. This weekend were honoring black History Month by highlighting the work of an amazing educator. Sean Larry Stevens with us now and janai saw his great work firsthand. A couple of weeks ago we went out to this school, and thats where i first met sean, sat down with him and met his incredible students to talk about the difference hes making in their lives, how hes inspiring them with a little bit of dancing and a whole lot of heart. Take a look. Principal sean stevens isnt your ordinary principal. For the students of kip newark collegiate academy, he is a whole lot more. He shows us what it means to walk in your excellence, to be the best you. Everyone looks up to you. Reporter the 32yearold principal making an educator for 11 years and specifically enjoys the challenges of working in a high school. People are scared of High Schoolers and i love it. Reporter being a black man at the helm of a school with predominantly black and brown students means he is unique in more than one way. There are 2 of black men who go into education in general. And sometimes its very isolating but its also very empowering, right . So every day i try to walk in that level of excellence. The graduating class of 2020, where yall at .
