I realized the object was the trash can. The trash can hit the bus stop, and the two people that were in it. The one gentleman that was in the bus stop had just recently got hit by another car. It appears police did make an arrest at the scene. Developing news in oakland, Mcclymonds High School is closed after a cancer causing chemical was found in the ground water. The chemical is tce and parents of student theres are demanding answers. Amy hollyfield is in the newsroom with this. Parents are angry and they expressed that anger at a meeting last night. It was a twohour long emergency meeting that was called. Parents told administrators about the fear and panic they felt when they heard the news. They got a robocall telling them the school was closing down because of a chemical that was found in the ground water near the school last friday. The source of that tce, could be an old plating plant, located 600 feet away. There should have been an apology and parents should have got their kids superintendent Kyla Johnson Trammell said she made the decision to close the school out of an abundance of caution that they are running tests to understand the extent of the issue. Officials say the schools Drinking Water was not affected. Tce is a known human carcinogen. They asked the state to trace the origin of the chemical. They have not said when school will reopen. Ive been following this on twitter, and some are saying they want more information. The Oakland Polices commission has the authority to remove the police chief under a voter approved Ballot Initiative voted on in 2016. The mayor hired her and she was the one who fired her. The Oakland Police commission does have the authority to remove the police chief under a voter Ballot Initiative. While there have been notable successes under kirkpatricks leadership, the commission felt she was still lacking. There are a lot of improvements but the disparities wont to exist and there are a series of other issues that contributed to losing the confidence. We didnt think she was going to be the most effective chief in oakland. I do not regret choosing chief kirkpatrick. And i believe there are many examples of ways that she served our city extremely well over these three years. But i must respect the authority and role of our independent Police Commission. The police union is not happy about this saying kirkpatrick was a well respected leader who was making significant progress and bringing stability to the opd. They go on to say Police Officers are disappointed in the actions of the Police Commission and the mayor. Kirkpatrick is entitled to oneyears salary as severance, thats around 273,000.
