Hundreds of american Cruise Ship Passengers are evacuating and boarding jets to come back home. We want to show you the new video from this morning as passengers disembarked the diamond princess cruise ship where they have been quarentined in japan for two weeks due to the coronavirus. Hundreds of other passengers have been infected. The american evacuees will arrive sometime today. Some will be quarentined for another 14 days when they arrive at Travis Air Force base. Others will be flown to texas. Were working to find out exact arrival times. The death toll from the virus climbed to more than 1,600 people. The first fatality was also confirmed this weekend in europe and just this morning Officials Say a taiwanese man who tested positive for the virus has died. Hes the first person in taiwan to die of the coronavirus. The number of infections has climbed to more than 69,000 people. Were in japan with more on the evacuation happening right now. Reporter this morning buses now arriving at the port that Japan Selfdefense forces evacuated passengers. Members of the Defense Force could be seen walking past the troubled ship. The 400 americans on board have already been in quarentine for 12 days. Back in the states, the clock restarts with 14 days in isolation on u. S. Military bases. The cdc screening all americans for the virus. Anyone with signs of covid19 will not be allowed to board planes back to the u. S. And will join the other americans getting treatment. But some, like Matthew Smith of sacramento, say he would rather take his chances on the boat. A man is facing serious charges for attacking two women on the embarcadero in San Francisco. Abc7 News Reporter Cornell Barnard shares what witnesses saw. This is my commute, every day. Thats scary. Reporter strong reaction to a scary incident early saturday morning. Police say this man wearing a cap and overalls was arrested and charged with attacking two women. Around 7 00 a. M. , a woman running along the embarcadero was stabbed near pier 19. She says we saw the young woman on her knees. She had a knife in her upper back. She reenacted the attack and said the suspect was agitated and swearing. He took off on a bicycle. Ten minutes later, the same man is suspected of attacking another woman with some sort of tool. She was helped into an balance with a bandage on her head. Police say the attacks were random. Both victims will survive. San francisco is kind of getting that way. We have too many people out on the streets that are a little bit psychotic. Reporter william lives on the embarcadeo. Hes concerned about the violence. I dont know what the solution is. I know its an issue and i carry pepper spray all the time. Reporter the suspects name has not been released. Hes facing two counts of attempted homicide, assault with a Deadly Weapon and resisting arrest. In San Francisco, abc7 news. A fund raiser took place to help koalas. A benefit from the australian koa koala foundation. Their habitats were decimated by the historic disaster. The fund raiser sought to raise money for relief efforts for koalas. Read so many great things about the foundation so i thought this is something i can do to raise awareness and money to help them and have fun at the same time. Donations to the nonprofit are tax deductible. Organizers say they had to do something after learning about the devastation to wildlife. The search for the next American Idol kicks off tonight. Shots fired Reporter Police radio calls describe the moment when two b. A. R. T. Police officers opened fire on an armed man at the el cerrito del norte station around 2 00 saturday afternoon. If you were there, you would see that he was running, trying to get away from the police. A witness who did not want to show her face on camera was sitting on b. A. R. T. Moments before the shooting. They chased this boy through the train, off the platform. He jumped on the tracks and thats when they shot him. They fired off a lot of rounds up there. And everybody scattered. I ran out. Reporter at a press conference, the police chief said the two officers involved were responding to a call between a man and a woman, one of them armed. The officers got onto the platform, challenged that individual, who then ran off the train, down the platform and onto our trackway at which point a gun was produced by the suspect and our officers ultimately shot recovering a gun.
