point? >> well, not exactly, dan, when you think about the larger issue. this is exactly what the moms for housing wanted all along they say was to be able to buy this property and stay in it. that's exactly what the agreement announced today will allow them to do. but it goes well beyond this one property. >> we're just happy. we're ready to buy mom's house, and we're ready to continue this movement. >> six days after alameda county sheriffs crashed through the front door of a modest house on magnolia street and arrested those who were living there illegally, the same moms for housing are now in negotiations to buy the house from which they were evicted thinking movement does not end today with us, with that house on magnolia street. we will not stop organizing and fighting until all unhoused folks who want shelter have shelter. >> mayor libby schaaf says her office was involved in the negotiations between wedgwood properties and moms for housing. >> these three parties have come together to really send a message that everyone cares about this crisis of homelessness. >> the agreement does not stop with the one house on magnolia. wedgwood has agreed to give the city the land trust and other groups first right of refusal on all its oakland properties, which currently total about 50. >> what this is going to provide to the city of oakland as well as to the disadvantaged is a pipeline of homes that wedgwood is going to make available to the city so it can participate in purchasing some of them. >> the moms say once the sale for magnolia is complete and upgrades are finished, they and their kids will move back in. >> the plan is to make that the foundation of moms for housing. that is where this all started, and that's where we all plan to keep it moving. >> now the alameda county sheriff's department took tremendous flak for the way this eviction was handled last week. a spokesman told abc7 news today said it's unfortunate that this deal, this agreement couldn't have come into place before they had to execute that judge's eviction order. the agency, the sheriff's department does plan to ask wedgwood to reimburse them for the cost of that action, about $50,000. in oakland, laura anthony abc7 news. >> laura, thank you. and the moms for housing group also took part in a martin luther king day march that turned into a protest in oakland. sky 7 was overhead as a large crowd gathered near the public library on 14th street, not far from the sheriff's office. the rally featured a diverse group of protesters and addressed a variety of issues including homelessness and school closures. new developments in an emergency housing development in oakland. homes are going up right now. volunteers with the village in oakland are building emergency shelters at vantage point park where organizers say people have been living in tents for at least ten years. the group's founder says the project is the perfect way to mak the martin luther king jr. holiday. >> one of his main pushes was a need of adequate housing. so it's really appropriate that we're doing this on his birthday to remember him as part of his, you know, legacy he left us. so we're picking up the torch. >> the the project will continue through the week. the goal is to build five tiny homes. another big build is set for this weekend. the group says its goal is to get people into safe shelter until permanent, affordable housing is available. new developments in berkeley. we just learned what happened to start a deadly police chase. uc berkeley police tell us an officer saw a man punching a woman inside a parked car that driver spedaway when officers pulled up next to the gray nissan. moments later, that suspect veered on to a sidewalk, hitting and killing a pedestrian. the victim died at the scene at sixth street and university avenue. the suspect kept heading westbound on university before getting on to 80. we will have a live update for you on abc7 news at 6:00. a short time ago, point reyes-petaluma road finally reopened at highway 1 and platform bridge road after a car crashed into a power pole this morning. the crash caused power to be cut for dozens of people in that area. three people are recovering from minor injuries after their car overturned and knocked down a pole in santa rosa. this happened on sebastopol road. firefighters had to use specialized equipment in order to free the occupants. there was quite a moment as head coach kyle shanahan received the nfc championship trophy from his dad, mike. with a win in super bowl liv, they would become the first father and son to win the game as head coach. kyle was a ball boy for the 49ers as a kid, and his dad was offensive coordinator for the 49ers team that won super bowl xxix. today he said this fulfills a childhood dream. >> i mean, if you would have told me this when i with us in middle school, i would have said that's a dream come true. you get into the nfl and you start thinking about that stuff because there is 32 teams and you're doing whatever you can to get that opportunity and stuff. and the way it worked out and the way everything lined up, it is pretty special to sit and think about. >> as you saw. >> super bowl xxix was played in miami and so was super bowl xxxiii, which he won as the broncos head coach. 49ers fans have been lining up at levi's stadium all an incredible run, but there is more work to be done. >> our goal is to win the super bowl, always has been, always will be. we haven't reached that pinnacle yet, but it feels pretty good right now. joined forces in a day of service in honor of martin luther king jr. on this, the national holiday commemorating that civil rights icon. hundreds of volunteers helped refurbish schoolyards across northern california, including john f. kennedy elementary in daly city. the event was co-sponsored by hands on bay area, a nonprofit organization that has helped organize this event for the last 16 years. good people doing good things today. the legacy of dr. king was honored and celebrated all over the bay area today. abc7 news reporter kris reyes begins with an emotional speech from san thing, that recall. baby trend is recalling four stroller models due to a fall hazard. the recall covers black tango mini strollers. they're sold at target and on amazon. affected models were sold between october and november of last year for between 100 and $120. the consumer product safety commission says the stroller's hinge joints can release and collapse under pressure. baby trend says anyone with a recalled stroller should stop using it right now and return it for a full refund. what's old is new again in the u.s. bond market. listen to this. the u.s. treasury has a solution to the deficit, other than just print mortgage money. it is bringing back a bond that hasn't been around since 1986. u.s. treasury has announced it will soon issue a new 20-year bond. right now they only go up to ten years. the deficit surpassed $1 trillion last year, and bonds are a way to finance growing debt. the new 20-year bond is likely to appeal to pension funds or insurance companies. the first 2020 model year corvette was auctioned off saturday for $3 million. the first model of the year is worth more to car collectors. this year's model is considered especially valuable because motor trend named the vet car of the year, and this is the first year with a rear-mounted engine. the winning bidder was nascar team owner rick hendrick. joins donated the car to benefit the detroit children's conditions, but that will not last very long as a light storm is on the way. here is a few from sutro tower looking over san francisco under increasingly cloudy skies. 57 degrees here in the city right now. mid 50s in oakland, redwood city, san jose, gilroy and half moon bay. and the view of the after glow eril is 53 in santa rosa.d after at petaluma. fairfield at 50. and mid-50s at napa, concord and livermore. and at the golden gate, skies are still fairly bright. but we see more clouds than an hour ago. north bay sprinkles will develop overnight, continue into the early morning hours. and rain will be a little steadier and sweep southward and eastward during the afternoon and evening hours. we have a dry pattern beginning on wednesday that will continue for the remainder of the week. well also have rough surf right now. a beach hazard statement is in effect for bay area beaches until 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. wave heights continue to grow. they're at 8 feet at most locations right now. there is the possibility of dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves. bear in mind. the approaching storm is a light storm, ranking only 1 on the abc7 news storm impact scale. so before the morning commute begins, we'll see spotty showers moving into parts of the north bay. and then the cold front with more organized rainfall will start to sweep southward in the midmorning periods of light rain. and that will continue into late tomorrow night. overnight lows tonight mainly in the mid-40s and highs tomorrow generally in the mid-50s. and here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. after tomorrow's little bout of wet weather we get three dry days, wednesday, thursday, and friday. although we'll probably see morning fog wednesday and thursday. it will get milder with and a teenaged boy may face criminal charges after being arrested for an illegal sideshow in sonoma county. a highway patrol aircraft captured thermal image video of the sideshow. you can see the crowd blocked the intersection of guerneville and willowside road on saturday evening. the chp helped officers on the ground capture two of the suspects after they drove abray the sideshow. officers also seized four cars. abc7 news is committed as i don't know to focusing on issues aimed at building a better bay area, especially transportation. on thursday, the bart board will vote on whether to install canopies above escalator entrances at four san francisco stations. they would be similar to this one installed at the powell street station back in 2018. the canopies are designed to help protect riders from the elements of course as well as provide additional security through motorized gates at each entrance. they will also feature real-time digital displays that show train arrival
