The north bay, we still have looking at some air quality issues that well have for the next day or so. We are looking at that spare the air alert today for poor air quality throughout the bay area. That is due to the fires from the north having that smoke drift in. So throughout the day today, we will be in the 70s by 1 00. A few 80s in the inland valleys. Temperatures will be warm, not as warm, and well have that haze to the sky. Well talk about the next chance and the next round of offshore winds which we already have advisories for coming up. Thats as soon as tomorrow night. Jobina . Thank you. Some updates for everyone. If we go up, this is where the sigalert was in the north bay, state round 128 between geyserville avenue and woodleaf, that area is still closed. No sigalert, but can see that purple line. No one will be going anywhere any time soon on that roadway. Also wanted to give you a thumbs up if you are familiar with whats happening last night, a fire broke out near highway 1 on the San Mateo County coast, that reopened 10 30 last night. Everything is smooth there this morning. Beginning now this morning with the fire emergency in Sonoma County. The fire has spread to 16,000 acres. This as whipping winds are expected this weekend. Cl fire says 49 structures have been destroyed, more homes and other buildings are threatened. The fire is 5 contained. We learned that a pg e transmission line failed around the same time that the fire started. Mandatory evacuations are in effect east of highway 128 to geyserville. You can see it in that shaded yellow area. The Healdsburg Community center and santa rosa Veterans Memorial center are being used as evacuation centers. Its a race against time to get this fire under control before the strong winds come this weekend. 1,300 firefighters were on the front lines yesterday and today that number is set to rise by 50 . We begin with leaisa. Currently the fire is 16,000 acres. 5 containment. 49 structures confirmed destroyed. Reporter the kincaid fire is ravaging Sonoma County. It came dangerously close to River Rock Casino near geyserville. 150 customers and employees had to evacuate wednesday night. We have to send the team members home from work. Were at risk of whatever the fire provides. And we dont have any business. Reporter but right now the property is safe. More than 2,000 people have been evacuated, including all of geyservie. Law enforcement is out in force. Patrolling the empty streets. We have 50 deputies on right now. Overnight well have 26 deputies corre directing folks on how to evacuate. Reporter there are no incidents of looting and no reports of anyone missing. Firefighters are bracing themselves for an intense weekend ahead. We are up against the clock. With the continuing drying fuel, but the winds are predicted to be worse than what we had the other night. Authorities dont expect to have more evacuations, were told the next updates will come in the form of a News Conference this afternoon. Abc7news. Firefighters have come in to help and the goal now is to get it mostly contained before the next round of high winds is expected this weekend. At the live desk, pg e said it restored 93 of customers impacted by the power shutoffs. But now officials are warning of another safety shutoff that could start as soon as tomorrow evening. Pg e ceo and president bill johnson said it would likely affect the peninsula, east bay, and north bay in the bay area. Winds are forecasted to gust between 40 and 60 Miles Per Hour over most elevated t d terrain northern california. He said the utility is at elevated potential for a new shutdown in 8 of the 9 zones. More than 120,000 Contra Costa County residents could be impacted by the shutoffs that last from tomorrow night into monday afternoon. The list includes walnut creek, lafayette, orinda. The likelihood of the outages is because of the extreme fire conditions as jobina was mentioning, those are expected this weekend. Thousands of people in Alameda County could be affected. Luckily b. A. R. T. Stations all have their own power supplies, so theyll still be up and running during an outage. Again, these shutoffs will possibly begin tomorrow night starting at 10 00 p. M. And lasting until monday afternoon at 2 00 p. M. Im lauren martinez, abc7 news. The bay area air Quality Management district says heavy smoke from that fire is expected to drift into the bay area today. Even if you cant see it, it doesnt mean that its not a health hazard. Particulate matter pollution is invisible to the naked eye because the particles are so small, they can bypass your lungs natural defense systems, just because you cant see the smoke doesnt mean you wont be impacted. Children, seniors, people with asthma are most vulnerable. Doctors recommend that people stay inside when its smoky, avoid exercising outdoors and make sure you use air filters. Just want to keep touching on this for anyone curious about whats going on in the north bay, state route 128 between geyserville avenue and woodleaf is still closed this morning. Here are the areas under mandatory evacuation orders because of the kincaid fire. The entire town of geyserville and areas east stretching past highway 128 into Black Mountain and mercuriville. Cloverdale, geysers, geyser red winery, alexander valley, moody lane and pine flat roads. There are three open evacuation centers. One at the Sonoma County fair grounds in santa rosa, thats available for you and your large animals. A second is across the street at the veterans memoril building. This is where you can take small animals and pets. The smird is healthird is heald community center. Evacuees have taken their livestock with them to the sonoma fair grounds. About 45 animals have been brought to the fair grounds so far. This pig, matilda, was getting picked up by her owners to get moved to another location. The site is base camp for cal fire and sonoma sheriffs to work together. The focus right now is on getting the fire out. The winds have subsided, were anticipating significant winds again this weekend. So were bringing a ton of firefighters into this community to get as much containment on this fire as possible. Horses, we have some mules, a donkey, we have some goats. We think there might be some alpacas coming in. The fair grounds is for livestock only though. People with regular pets can go across the street. If you have driven on highway 12 in kenwood you know theres a lot of wineries and restaurants there. Many of them were without power because of the forced pg e shutdown. It was a slow day because of it. Pg e is warning of another wind event tomorrow night into sunday morning which may require even more power shutoffs. That, of course s bad news for wineries. Chateau st. Jeans manager said they have a generator which was purchased after the 2017 fires. The winery is known for hosting a lot of weddings and other events. Actually bring in additional generators just for the various spaces around the property in case there cant support all of that. Here people are standing outside their home. Theyre waiting and watching the fire creep up above alexander valley. We can see the fire pushing over fire breaks bof that same valley. People in their cars trying to get out as it burns around them. Then theres this. This picture of what looks like a fire whirl. This happens when hot, dry air near the ground rises quickly and a column forms a vortex. And this picture of strong winds creating what is called an ember wash from an oak tree. Were not out of the woods yet. As weve been telling you, pg e is warning about new Power Outages over the when i have an asthma attack. I feel scared. What youre seeing, this is video from a window on the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department helicopter. You can see that thin line of flames from the fire lining the ridgetop from Late Wednesday night. With the elevated fire danger researchers at San Jose State University are keeping an eye on the forecast and how some of the changing weather conditions this weekend could impact the general public. Researchers at the Fire Weather Research lab just returned from Sonoma County after getting rare access to the front lines of the kincaid fire. Using state of the art technology, the professor says the Data Collected will be useful in the long run. This helps us better understand future fires and changing climate with the more extreme conditions we need to understand the extreme fire behavior. Theres no way do it except probing inside the fire. Clements says that modeling tools and observations with wind profilers could limit power shutoffs in the future. All right. Waking up to clear conditions. Heres a look at live doppler 7. Earlier this morning it was completely empty. Amazing the sights you can see overnight and into the early morning. Antioch to hercules, 25 minutes. Highway 4 to the maze, 13 minutes. Highway 85 to the san jose airport, 7 minutes. I just want to keep reminding people this morning because we were covering the sigalert all day yesterday throughout our breaking news coverage, state route 128 between geyserville avenue and woodleaf is closed. It will not be reopening soon because of the Emergency Responders working on their efforts to get that fire out. Thanks. At least 50,000 people have been ordered to evacuate from neighborhoods north of los angeles. The tick fire, as you can see here, has burned several homes in the Santa Clarita area. In just three hours the fire grew to just under 4,000 acres with 5 containment. Crews are battling a winddriven fire that erupted along highway 18 in San Bernardino. It prompted mandatory and voluntary evacuations of nearly 100 homes. So far no structures have been destroyed. The old water fire has burned 75 acres and is 30 contained. An emergency power shutoff is in effect in six Southern California counties but nothing like in the north part of the state. Southern california edison shut off power to more than 19,000 customers in kern, riverside, los angeles, San Bernardino and ventura due to strong winds. Ou 260,000 others for consider for shutoff. Once homes now gutted, the growing impact of the wildfire thats raging out of control in Sonoma County. And were learning new details about how the kincaid fire may have begun. Already the watches, warnings, advisories up for the saturday night event which promises to be stronger. We have that ridge of High Pressure, thats moving off to the east. Right now air quality is moderate in the south bay and north bay. You can see those greens. Looking good now, that should be changing throughout the day as we see some of that
