Its going to clear and well look for a Sunny Afternoon. 44 in petaluma with 50 in live more. Were a couple of degrees warmer in some locations. That has to do with the added moisture in the air. Here is a look at the current relative humidity at the surface. It looks pretty good, 50 to 60 , even 90 . In the upper elevations still cry, it always is this time of year. But through the afternoon youll notice the cooling trend, 60s and 70s around the middle of the day and near 80 inland by the afternoon. Thanks, lisa. One person is dead and two others hurt after a crash that happened just before 11 30 last night in unincorporated contra costa county. A car tried to pass another car on delta road. The speeding car overcorrected and hit another car. The driver of the speeding car was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was flown to the Trauma Center in walnut creek. The driver who was hit had minor juri injuries. Police are investigating a body found in a parked car in south san jose on bose lane at Camden Avenue just before 4 00 p. M. Yesterday. According to a Facebook Group titled find erin valenti, this is the same area where the 33yearold tech ceo disappeared. Her family filed a missing persons report when she vanished monday night. Her husband said she was driving a rental car to catch a flight home from utah. The last find erin valenti post on facebook states, many of you have seen the search for erin has been called off. While we were praying for a different outcome, we are so appreciative for the help and support. Pg e has finally restored electricity to all customers affected by the planned power outage. It says power was restored to all 738,000 customers by 6 00 last night. Bay area customers got power back yesterday morning. The shutoffs were called for because of red flag weather conditions. Pg es president and ceo spoke publicly again about the shutoffs and acknowledged things didnt go as planned. I think i and the company have been forthright discussing shortcomings in this event, things we were not prepared for. We will fix those. Pg e says it found 50 instances of weatherrelated damage or hazard during its planned outage. The utility says its looking at more instances, and the damage could have potentially caused a wildfire. Many people are still trying to get back to normal. At uc berkeley, some graduate students struggled in the aftermath of the power outage especially in the fields of science whose proects were dependent on power. Abc 7 News Reporter anser hassan reports. Reporter sarah morris says pg es power outage may have destroyed two years of her Cancer Research valued at 500,000. I kind of had a moment of thinking, is my thesis going to include the lines, i did thi but it got wiped out because of a power outage, please let me graduate . Reporter shes studying how to fight certain forms of cancer. She says pg e assured uc berkeley that the power would stay on but she was left with half a to find a way to keep her eerimen going when pg e announced the power would be cut. Some of her cells were removed to special tanks. Some were taken to ucsf, as uc berkeley scrambled to divert its power to keep research running. Pg e says, we also had frequent communications with these customers before, during, and after the psps event to support their eventspecific preparedness and address restoration prioritization requests and other needs. If i go out in the job market out, pase give thme a job. Nt reporter she says more needs to be done so pg e understands the full costs of cutting power. This is a call to action. If pg e cannot hear us individually, they will hear uc berkeley, and im glad to put my voice to that. In the newsroom, anser hassan, abc 7 news. Pg e shutoffs also impacted the launch of a Research Satellite built largely at uc berkeley. The icon satellite was launched thursday night over the atlantic. But Mission Control was at cal Space Sciences laboratory. Uc berkeley was able to supply enough power to track the satellite buduring its first passes over california. The launch had already been pushed back from last june. We sent this push alert last night to customers affected by the outages. He was pastor at st. Bonaventure at concord. A third passenger, from walnut creek parish, was injured. He is reported in stable condition. A new death being blamed on californias destructive wildfire as smoke blankets parts of los angeles this morning. The fire has forced thousands from their homes. This morning firefighters are still putting out hotspots, trying to avoid a flareup and the kind of nightmare monica and drew silver walked out of their house to find thursday night, wind whipping, burning embers, flames closing in on them from three sides. We knew we werent going to come home to a house. The embers were flying horizontally. The kids went, were not going out there. We said, if we dont, we die. Reporter an insurance adjuster confirmed their fears. It was hard to hear somebody say its a total loss, no question about it. Reporter theirs one of dozens of homes destroyed this week. A second person was killed in this mobile Home Community that was quickly overcome by flames. And this morning in los angeles county, mandatory evacuation orders are lifted. Residents now returning home. Were very lucky. Were very, very fortunate. Reporter while the silvers assess their losses. Their wedding rings gone. Everything from their photography business destroyed. We lost our home and work. Reporter and yet, they say theyre grateful. The things dont matter. Its being together and living through it. We have our lives and our health. Thats all that matters. Reporter their neighbors are thankful too, because other than these two houses, firefighters were able to save every other home in this community. A clear reminder of how wildfires can evolve and create their own weather. Abc 7 news was in menlo park yesterday where the fire nato truck made an appearance. The truck was caught in the redding area wildfire last year. It created a firenado that had wind speeds that measured 147 miles per hour, wiping out just about erything in its path. Organizers of yets event say they hope the truck can provide a teaching moment. So people who werent there, people who didnt live through that, can come here and see it and understand how prevention, preparedness for themselves, what would they need to do to survive an event like that if it happened to them. The pancake breakfast helped raise money for those affected by the fires. Thankfully the winds have subsided. They have, and we have a nice week ahead. Bedlam broke out inside a New Hampshire church after a man stormed the church with a gun and opened fire at a wedding that happened inside yesterday morning at the new england pentecostal ministries in pelham. Both victims survived the encounter. Wedding guests took matters into their own hands to stop the shooter. From my understanding, they basically gangtackled him, a struggle ensued, minor injuries occurred to the other guests who confronted the shooter. The shooter is identified as 37yearold dale hall owe way. Police say his relationship to the wedding guests is under investigation. Burlingame residents held a simulation yesterday on how to respond to a major disaster. Its the seventh year the Burlingame Neighborhood Network organized the drill with the help of local first responders. There was a key message here, how peopl can help themselves when resources are stretched then. To be selfsufficient and take care of the little emergencies like knowing how to turn off the gas, shut off the water, knowing basic first aid skills and cpr, and being able to mitigate small emergencies while were out on the big ones. Firefighters say it can go a long way in times of crisis and disaster. Thursday is the 30th anniversary of the massive loma prieta quake. These guys nailed a perfect landing. Its my first visit, im just thrilled. An inside loop and he pulls it off reporter pilots testing their limits with daredevil acrobatics. That kind of made me a little dizzy. Reporter check out this boeing 777 jet putting on a show over the bay. A Million People are here this weekend, for one reason yep, blue angels. Its great to see them come so close by you feel them when they go through. This is very exciting. Reporter amazing, right . Yeah. Blue angels are an iconic part of fleet week. They have six jets, f18s. They fly as close as 18 inches wingtip to wingtip. I love it. Ive been wait to go to an air show with the blue angels fover. Thats an improvement from earlier in the 30s. 55 in san rafael. Fairfield at 52. This is the golden gate bridge. You can see, its just patchy, the clouds here. The west winds will return today. Looking at that sea breeze, a Sunny Afternoon with the high clouds around from time to time. Temperatures will be nearing average for the week ahead. Its cooler downtown, 66. Out of the 70s, but a nice day. The next 48 hours, the fog pretty much stays away from the coast. Overnight tonight into your monday morning, marin county and san mateo, it pulls back for a Sunny Afternoon. Then into monday afternoon, monday night, its there, but its just very shallow. Into Tuesday Morning well have it along the coast. Could even see some early drizzle tomorrow morning. Then again by the middle of the week as this system rides a little bit close. Its getting into Northern California come wednesday and thursday. So we could squeeze out a little drizzle wednesday and into thursday. Otherwise, slightly cooler the end of the week. As for today, upper 60s downtown. 71 in oakland. San mateo, mid70s. Thats about average in san jose, near 80 out towards antioch. Upper 70s in santa rosa. With the relative humidity up a little b, the atmosphere holds onto that moisture. The overnight lows are somewhat mitigated. We should see them a little more comfortable instead of that dry, dry air, allowing them to drop into the 30s. Developing out of japan this morning, thousands of troops have been deployed to deal with catastrophic flood damage in parts of tokyo and eastern japan. At least 19 are dead and more than a dozen missing after a typhoon. You can see the pictures, a scary situation. Helicopters and boats are out in full force to rescue people trapped in their homes. 14 rivers across the nation are experiencing flooding. Deaths include those who got swept away by raging rivers and some who were trapped in mudslides. A woman in her 70s was dropped 10 feet from a helicopter during an attempted rescue. She was rushed to the hospital but later died. 375,000 homes have no electricity. Developing news out of syria, defense secretary mark esper says President Trump ordered all u. S. Troops in Northern Syria to move south but not leave the country. Turkey now says it has captured a key Syrian Border town. Video has emerged showing kurdish prisoners being publicly executed. Reporter this morning turkeys brutal assault on u. S. Backed kurdish troops and civilians enters a new and bloody phase. Now in its fifth day as turkey and the militias it backs continued their relentless push into syria. This video obtained by the New York Times appears to show kurdish prisoners lying on the ground moments before theyre executed. The kurds are desperately calling on American Allies to close airspace to turkish war planes. A large rally locally here is planned at noon today at San Franciscos union square to protest the turkish invasion in Northern Syria. A number of protests were held yesterday in the bay area. Authorities are investigating after a woman was shot and killed by a ft. Worth Police Officer inside her own home. The officer responded to a cocerned neighbors call. Now theres outrage over the womans death. Whit johnson has the details. Reporter the deadly encounter lasting only seconds. This morning growing outrage over the death of a 28yearold woman shot by an officer in her own home. She was massacred in her own house. She wasnt killed. She was murdered. Reporter Police Released this body camera video, and say the white ft. Worth officer who opened fire was there to perform a welfare check. He arrived 2 35 saturday morning when jeffersons concerned neighbor called police after noticing her lights were on and the front door open. No domestic violence, no arguing. Nothing that they should have been concerned as far as them coming with guns drawn to my neighbors house. Reporter the video appearing to show the officer walking the perimeter of the home. Hes not heard identifying himself. Later he looks through the window with a flashlight, shouts commands, and fires. Show me your hands [ sound of gunfire ] she went to investigate out the window. An officer was on the other side who shouted commands. Before she had a moment to respond, he shot her to death. Reporter that neighbor now questioning his decision to call police. I feel bad because had i not called the police department, she would probably still be alive today. Reporter ft. Worth Police Officials claim they recovered a gun inside the house but did not say where the gun was found or whether the officer had seen it before he shot jefferson. The department saying they are committed to completing an extremely thorough investigation. Whit johnson, abc 7 news, new york. Video captured the moment the Hard Rock Hotel under construction in new orleans collapsed, killing at least two people. Another person remains missing at this hour. What caused the floors of the building to suddenly fall on top of one another last night does remain under inigatioabc news re has more on what witnesses saw unfold. Reporter this morning officials are investigating what caused this building and crane to topple over at the new Hard Rock Hotel in new orleans, killing two people. There is reported to be a Building Collapse at the hard rock cafe. It looks like the top four floors are hanging down. Reporter this horrifying video shows people running for their lives. Look at those guys running, oh, dear god. That was scary. My heart jumped out of me. Reporter a choking cloud of dust and debris consuming the air for survivors. This trolley barely escaping. Nearly two dozen people were hurt, and one construction worker is still missing. I thought they forgot to put a chute. I kept looking at it and it kept getting worse. Reporter officials have evacuated some of the neighboring buildings because theyre concerned the hotel itself could completely collapse or that the other cranes that are still standing, that they could fall over as well. Im so grateful, because we dont know when we can go back. Its still a dangerous situation. The crane is still in place but it is unsupported. Reporter and the famous canal street here in new orleans remains closed as authorities are still concerned about the potential that this building could collapse completely. Its all part of a new documentary about the worlds foremost expert on giraffes. Here is abc 7 News Reporter chris reyes. Reporter at the San Francisco zoo, they really want you to get up close and personal with giraffes. Is it top of mind for people that giraffes are a threatened species . Unfortunately i think its not. The animals we hear about all the time that most regular people are aware of having conservation issues like chimpanzees or elephants, theres actually six times as many elephants in the wild than giraffes. For whatever reason the giraffe doesnt attract the attention it deserves. Reporter thats had he heart of a new documentary, featuring the worlds first and foremost giraffe expert. She defied convention in the 1950s, documenting the lives of giraffes and writing a book on the subject. It was amy phelps, a curator at the San Francisco zoo, who tracked her dn to bring her back to the community of advocates, many in the bay area desperate to raise the profile of giraffes. I think anns reappearance is part of a movement. We like to say that the time for giraffes is now, that now its their turn. They really are finally getting the attention that theyve needed and its people like ann and films like that one that make regular people aware of something that they really have reporter the population of giraffes in the wild has declined by 30 in 30years, some subspecies by 85 in ten years. Thats why here at the zoo, the act of allowing visitors to feed the giraffes is intentional. The hope is connection. And with connection, awareness, action, and funding.
