A bay area woman has a rare form of diabetes and depends on a service dog. Her helper led her to discrimination by ride share company. I am eric thomas. The woman says lyft drivers refused to give her a ride. Shes calling the company to do more to educate its drivers. Liz kreutz is live in the newsroom. Reporter taliah lubin moved to San Francisco to start law school. She taken three rides with lyft and each time she had drivers cancelled on her or given her a hard time. We spoke with her today in her apartment. Reporter taliah lubin has type one diabetes. Her dog is her best friend and guard y guardian. Shes sassy and saved my life a bunch of times. Reporter taliah says she faces discrimination. Most recently from lyft, three different drivers refused her service because of astra. When Something Like this happens, it feels it is so painful. Reporter the irst incident happened earlier this year. The lyft driver pulled up and say astra and drove away. The following two incidents happened the same day last week. My first driver pulled over and i was saying hi, how are you and he cuts me off. Ka cant have a dog. Reporter after some argumen arguments, she felt harassed the whole ride and on the way back, the same incident and another rider cancelled. It is scary. How am i going to get home . Reporter drivers are required to accommodate service dog. If they dont, the drivers account can be deak vaccinaact. Taliah wants the company to do more. That may be true but it is not adequate and not working because your passengers with disabilities are not able to use your service so thats what i am hoping to change. We have a strict service and animal policies that require all drivers to accommodate riders traveling with service animals. Failure to abide by the regulation can be removed from lyft. Taliah is asking for more education so people like her dont have to suffer in her situation. Liz kreutz. San bruno Police Arrested a lyft driver. He took her all the way to his home in tracy before sexually assaulted her. The driver has been identified as 46 yeathe 46 years old. Lyft tells abc7 news, it has moved the drivers access and reached out to the rider. We did more than a dozen studies of ride share of drivers and cars and rules. M. Near 5th and market street. Police did say it did not appear drugs or alcohol were involved. This marks the citys 15 cyclist or pedestrian deaths this year we ask our mayor to step in and gather and convene the citys agencies that are committed to vision zero, eliminating all of our pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries by 2024. And get our agencies together to find a solution. San franciscos supervisor drew a resolution to call for the board to declare a state of emergency for traffic safety. Was there a crime connected or was someone paid or involved etcetera . And those are important questions to get answers.
