Wow. Investigators in detroit are looking into what sparked a massive home explosion in a residential neighborhood. The blast was so powerful it even damaged nearby homes. Heres abcs alex perez. Reporter investigators in detroit on the scene of this massive blast. Theres a dwelling that possibly exploded from a gas leak. Reporter the home exploding at about 1 30. Its like, boom then flames start flying up in the air. Reporter two houses next door damaged. It was loud enough to shake the whole block. Reporter there have been a string of recent natural gas explosions rocking residential areas. In kentucky last week, this blast rocketing flames 300 feet in the air, killing one person. And in North Carolina last month, one woman was killed in this explosion. Her husband, who was trapped in the wreckage, rescued after using his apple watch to call 911. Back in detroit officials combing through the wreckage say luckily it appears no one was killed. And investigators are now working to figure out what exactly caused that explosion. Jordan lindsay was snorkeling with her mom in june when at least two sharks began biting her. The family says the Sandy Toes Tour Company was not prepared to handle the situation. Jordan was in her third year at Loyola Marymount university in los angeles and her father spoke to our amy robach. Theyre swimming slowly, then jordan said, mom, theres another shark coming. And then it just the second shark hit her, the second shark hit again on her lower leg, took a giant chunk out of her, then thats the last thing jordan said. Cammy, your wife, jordans mom, has her in her arms, swimming. She knows shes lost most of her arm. Then a second shark comes up in between them . Yeah. Just took a giant chunk out of her. Oh, unimaginable. Unbelievable. The familelse they say no one in the tour group entered the water when jordan was attacked. The company says staff responded swiftly and appropriately. Cannot imagine. Yeah, because the family also says that employees gave jordan no medical attention, and that they had no first aid kit. Oh my goodness. She said he thought he had Mental Illness but did not want to seek help because of the stigma. The gunmans family is cooperating with Law Enforcement and released this statement. The betts family is shocked and devastated by the events of sunday morning in the oregon district. They offer their most heartfelt prayers and condolences to all the victims, their families and friends. The family is also asking for privacy as they mourn the loss of their son and daughter. A lawsuit filed by a victims Advocacy Group claims it found more than 350 names that dont appear in the scouts ineligible volunteer files. We know that some are still in ministry, some are still in education. As weve tracked them, some are still in child care and youthserving organizations. And we also know the kids are at risk because of that. That group, abused in scouting, wants the boy scouts to release more than 1,500 socalled perversion files in order to protect children. And i think its important to always trust your intuition and use common sense whenever youre traveling to a place that might be going through some political unrest. Daytons mayor is urging those unhappy about the visit to protest. The president has ordered the fbi to make combating hate crimes and domestic terrorism a top priority. President trump held a rally talking about undocumented immigrants, the border wall, even with el paso being one of the safest major cities in america. Open borders are dangerous and immoral. Reporter the president has also used the word invasion, a word Authorities Say the suspect used in his own writings posted right before the massacre. I was badly criticized for using the word invasion. Its an invasion. It is an invasion, you know that. Reporter now many people in el paso find it unsettling that the president is coming back, this time to provide comfort. Why would you want to come . I know hes our president. But he has promoted a lot of this, all this anger. Reporter democratic candidates, including beto orourke, the former congressman from el paso, have pointed to the president s rhetoric. People in el paso by and large do not want to see him here, understand that he is part of the problem, part of how we got to this point. I will continue to challenge any harmful and inaccurate statements made about el paso.
