Walnut creek police say they field 3,000 calls a year related to homelessness about, ten call fulltime officers to respo e calls aut encatchments, littering, trespassing and panhandling. A lot of time its people shopping downtown and really dont want to be bothered by people panhandling, we get a lot of complaints about it. We have a lot of people that are concerned that walnut creek is going to turn into some of their close neighbors like sfleens officer clemente and officer silva volunteered for the fourmonth Pilot Program that launched in midjune. Theyve made 25 arrests so far mostly for trespassing. Theyve also contacted 213 homeless and referred 9 off them to services to address their needs. They also retrieve and return shopping carts.
