On conditt road in morgan hill. Thats off of highway 101. Lets get live to abc7 News Reporter liz kreutz. Shes not far from where that shooting happened. Liz, what have you learned . Reporter yeah, good evening, a very sad situation here. As you said, two victims have died. We know as well as the suspect who came into this ford dealership here in morgan hill, opened fire, sending employees running. According to police, around 6 00 p. M. Tonight, Morgan Hill Police department received multiple calls about a shooting here at the ford store. Officers arrived in minutes and found a suspect on the ground with a gun in his hand. Inside the building is where they found the two male victims. There is no outstanding suspects at this time. The scene is secured and were moving forward with our investigation. Reporter now, police have not confirmed that this was a workplace confrontation, but here is what one employee who was able to escape told us. From my understanding is one of the Parts Department employees is an older gentleman, was fired today and came back. And this happened all around i think like 6 00. Came back, shot two of the managers who would have been the individuals that fired him. Im very upset myself that, you know, these are people i know. I never expected this to ever happen, especially at a car dealership. Reporter now, that employee said that many of the employees ran into the la quinta hotel which is right next to the dealership here to escape. Police are still here right now. They plan to be here late into the night continuing their investigation. And just on a community level, you know, many people in the area have come by. They say that morgan hill is a very small community. Everybody knows everybody. Many people know people who work at this dealership, and so its left many people shaken tonight. We havent learned the names of the four victims. His wife escaped and called 911. New developments tonight, plans are moving forward for a new Navigation Center along San Franciscos embarcadero. The city had already approved the project near bryant street and tonight the board of supervisors rejected an appeal from a group of nearby residents. Were concerned that the city is going to import a problem that we dont have with this Navigation Center. Reporter despite fierce push back from some living in the area, the San Francisco board of supervisors voted tuesday to move forward with a planned Navigation Center on the embarcadero. The center would have 200 beds making it the largest in the city. Those in favor of the shelter say its needed for the community. It is time to be expediting homeless shelters. I dont know how anyone can look at our streets and say that its not a good idea to expedite homeless shelters. Planners would like the center to open in a few months to move people off the street toward permanent housing. San francisco already operates Navigation Centers elsewhere and critics claim they have blighted other neighbors neighborhoods. Other Navigation Centers have much smaller size, require almost daily police and paramedic and fire services, and already in our area, the police and Fire Department are stretched thin. An attorney for safe embarcadero say opponents of the Navigation Center plan to take legal action. He believes its fate will be decided in court. New at 11 00, San Franciscos muni says commuters should notice safety upgrades made to its newest light rail trains. All doors will now open on munis new lrvs. Muni locked the back doors on the cars after the examiner shared video of a woman being dragged after getting her hand caught in a closing door. Those doors now have new sensors to detect when someone is stuck. And couplers have been modified so the new cars can run as twocar trains again. As expected, San Franciscos board of supervisors voted today to ban the sale of ecigarettes in the city. The city is the corporate home of juul, the biggest producer of ecigarettes in the united states. The vote was on two ordinances, prohibiting the sale of ecigarettes in brick and Mortar Stores and online if shipping to addresses in the city. Mayor london breed has ten days to sign the legislation, which she had said she will do. The law would go into effect next year. This vote makes the city the first in the country to ban the sale of ecigarettes. More than 70 gray whales have been found dead along the west coast this year and scientists are trying to figure out why. 14 have wash aed ashore in the bay area and marine biologists discuss their initial findings and theories. The San Francisco chapter of the american satation society hosted biologist mo flannery of the California Academy of sciences. Her team along with the Marine Mammal center have performed 12 necropsies of gray whales this year. The leading cause of death is malnutrition, which Scientists Say could be due to a multitude of factors, including climate change. They may not be getting enough food. They may have to be traveling farther to get food. The food may be a lesser quality than it has been in the past, or there may be more whales than the food supply can provide or about. Might be disease that we but we are looking into all of those questions. Scientists say the unprecedented amount of data they have collected from necropsies this year will help find an answer. But that may be years away. Part of our effort to build a better bay area has focused on recycling and what everyone can do to protect our environment. In the north bay, one marin county woman wants to tackle growing stacks of delivery boxes. Shes found a way to reuse them and is trying to get local jurisdictions on board. Abc7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian explains. Reporter this past february, carolyn came up with a plan to reuse all the amazon boxes she had piled up in her closets. Have the delivery trucks pick them up on subsequent deliveries and return them to amazon warehouses for reuse. Reporter her idea has really caught on. On change. Org, more than 4,000 people have signed her petition and another 500 have signed another one asking amazon to use marin county as a testing ground for her plan. Its the number of boxes are escalating and we are all feeling pretty concerned when were putting them into our trash, our recycling. Reporter having just one amazon box is no big deal. But when you have all of these and more on the way, your recycle bin is bound to get packed. Just ask the owner of tiburon mail service. I have recycled amazon boxes i use here, and also in here.
