Homeowners are scrambling to prepay their property taxes for next year. Theyre hoping to save thousands of dollars before the new tax law signed by President Trump takes effect on monday. Taxpayers from higher tax states including california are trying to take advantage of deduction that is will soon disappear. It limits deductions for state and local income and property taxes capping them at a combined 10,000. The irs says to qualify for the extra deduction this year property taxes need to be paid and assessed in the year 2017. And that means anyone paying taxes on estimated assessments will probably be out of luck. Republican roy moore is trying to stop officials from certifying Democrat Doug Jones as the winner there. Moore filed a lawsuit claiming there may have been voter fraud and that there should be now a new election. Jones defeated moore by 20,000 votes earlier this month and in a statement moore also said he passed a polygraph test about his alleged sexual misconduct.
