Lauers abrupt departure leaves colleagues in shock. Ive known matt for 15 years and ive loved him as a friend, as a colleague still dealing with the news of a friend of 30 years and were all trying to process it. The president has denied the accusations, calling the women liars. New morning, San Mateo County deputies say theyve arrested a man accused of inappropriately touching children at an afterschool care program. 19yearold hongtran was Sheriffs Office began investigating him in september after a sixyearold girl said he touched her during the investigation, another victim, sevenyearold girl came forward. Tran was arrested yesterday in redwood city. Hes been fired from the school district. New developments, San Jose Police release details on the suspect arrested for shooting at a willow glen elementary school. This is the booking photo for 21yearold Nicholas Oconnor. Officers arrested him last night at his san jose home. A reporter is live at headquarters with the latest. Reporter matt, police tell us the suspect is a 21yearold man who has no criminal background. They are still looking into what the motive is and why he targeted that school. Police took Nicholas Oconnor into custody at 8 00 last night. He was the man seen on Surveillance Video shooting out cameras at bookson Health Department ri tuesday morning. Officers searched the neighborhood and found a shotgun in the background. They reviewed the security video and even though wearing a mask, investigators are confident they have the right man. I know they want to know what he was doing there, why he brought a shotgun on to School Campus after hours. So those are all things that our investigators are looking into. Reporter the campus was hit with the same type of vandalism on veterans day weekend. Detectives believe the shootings are related but are still investigating. Pressure wass mounting against the police department. Parents were worried. This morning, theyre relieved to hear about the arrest. We were happy to hear about the arrest. We were concerned about leaving the kids to school today. We left them at home yesterday. But this morning, made it easy to get them up and going and to help appease their fears. Its the worst thing that could happen to a school. Whether its in the middle of the night or during the daytime, obviously. So who knows what the motive was to shoot the cameras, would he come back and start, you know, going after kids . Reporter oconnor faces felony charges of discharging a firearm and vandalism. The San Jose Unified School district tells us that oconnor graduated from Willow Glen High School in 2015. Happening now the jury deciding the fate of the man accused of killing kate steinle is behind closed doors with no indication if a verdict is coming soon. Got settled in about 9 30 this morning, we havent received any word that theyve reached a verdict. The judge said we will get 30 minutes notice before that verdict is read. If it feels like to you that maybe this is taking a while, this actually is not unusual. We checked in with a prosecutor across the bay over in alameda county, he pointed out, some murder deliberations go for weeks. So, nothing unusual about this length of time at this point. These jurors are deciding whether Jose Inez Zarate is guilty of murder or if accidentally shot and killed a woman as he claims. His defense teams says he accidentally went off. Prosecutors believe he aimed it and intentionally fired it. The bullet hit kate steinle in the back. This was two years ago in july 2015 at pier 14 in San Francisco. Where he was walking with her father. The gun was found in the bay after the shooting. The prosecutors believe that ditching the gun in the water shows intent. This jury has expert testimony to weigh one expert believes the shot looked intentional, another thinks it looks like an accident. Jurors have several options to weigh, first or Second Degree murder or voluntary manslaughter, or, of course, a not guilty verdict. So, a lot for them to go over, discuss, and talk about, and consider during these deliberations. They have had the case since last tuesday afternoon.
