I never told anybody to do anything other than what they wanted to do. Reporter in the late 1960s he formed a commune and became obsessed with the beatlesbeatl helterskelter and in august of 1969 he ordered four of his followers to go to a home in Beverly Hills and kill everyone inside. In all, five people died including actress sharon tate. Wife of director roman polanski. She was 8 1 2 months pregnant. The next day he took his followers to leno and rosemary labiancas house. He didnt stay for the murders but left his young disciples with a message. If youre going to do something, leave something with you. Reporter they did, messages written on the walls in their victims blood. Months later manson and the others were arrested. The 35yearold and three young women on trial with him constantly staged antics inside the courtroom. The jury found them all guilty, and they were all sentenced to death. A long time ago being crazy meant something. Nowadays everybody is crazy. Reporter that sentence would eventually be commuted to life in prison. Com. Also breaking overnight, a medical helicopter has crashed in arkansas killing three crew members. That chopper went down in a remote area southeast of little rock. The Emergency Responders had a hard time reaching the scene. Once they arrived, they found the helicopter engulfed in flames. Those medevac helicopters carry an excessive amount of few, a lot more than an act pilot would, and that does give concerns about putting a fire out. It makes it more difficult to put the fires out. No patients were on board the helicopter, but federal investigators are heading to the scene. The ems unit that owned the helicopter says it is devastated by the sudden loss of three of our team members. A search for the suspects is under way this morning following the death of a Border Patrol agent in texas. The incident happened in the states big bend area along the southwest border with mexico. Agent Rogelio Martinez was killed, and his partner seriously injured. The fbi has taken over the investigation but is not providing details on what happened to the agents or the nature of the injuries. President trump did tweet about this overnight saying we will seek out and bring to justice those responsible adding we will and must build the wall. The white house is working to convince senator Susan Collins and several other republicans to support the latest tax cut plan. Budget director Mick Mulvaney says the president is open to scrapping a provision in the bill that would repeal the Obamacare Mandate which requires everyone to buy Health Insurance but treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin suggests that the repeal will stay in the bill and thats a Sticking Point for senator collins. The biggest mistake was putting in a provision from the Affordable Care act into the senate bill thats not in the house bill, and i hope that will be dropped or that bills have been introduced by senators alexander and murray and bill nelson and myself will be adopted to mitigate the impact of those provisions. Republicans cannot afford to lose more than two votes on this bill. Senators bob corker, John Mccain Jeff flake and rand paul have also expressed rest ser sayings about the plan. Now to the desperate search for a cop killer near pittsburgh. Officer brian shaw was on a routine traffic stop when he was shot in the chest. Police say the suspect got out of his vehicle and ran away after shaw pulled him over. He is considered armed and dangerous. You see the suspect here. Shaw was just 25 years old. He was on the force less than a year. A reward of more than 43,000 is now offered in this case. And to baltimore where police have intensified their search for the suspect who shot and killed a detective there. Sean suiter was shot in the head while investigating a triple homicide last week. The reward for information leading to an arrest is now nearly 250,000. American troops in okinawa, japan, have been restricted to base and banned from Drinking Alcohol after a crash that killed a japanese driver near okinawa. A u. S. Marine was arrested after witnesses say he slammed into a man that was in the truck. The marines blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit. Time is running out for the 44 crew members on board this argentinean submarine. The u. S. Navy and the air force is joining the International Effort to find this subbefore its too late. For days rescue crews in argentina have been trying to find 44 crew members on board an argentinean submarine. Its been missing for almost a week, and now Stormy Weather is holding up their efforts. [ speaking a Foreign Language ] reporter the navy lost contact with the a. R. A. San juan and it shows the close quarters sailors work in in because of the particular type of submarine, theyre dependent on the batteries within that submarine. Every hour that goes by gives them less and less chance of surviving. Reporter the Argentine Navy says the a. R. A. San juan submarine was on a routine trip from a base from ushuala and a fire may have knocked out power on the sub cutting off Communication Systems but someone on the ship may have been trying to make contact. The defense minister says seven failed emergency satellite calls went out on saturday but cannot confirm they came from the san juan or pinpoint where the calls were made. Normally in a submarine like this, the procedure is to surface and use radio to communicate with its headquarters so because they have not heard from the submarine for so long it makes them worried. Reporter at least six nations are helping in the search for the sub. The u. S. Navy sending in their most sophisticated rescue equipment that operates as deep as 2,000 feet. Search units are focusing on what Little Information they have, estimating how fast the sub may have been traveling from its starting point and copying its same scheduled path in hopes of spotting it. Three people were injured when a Small Plane Crashed into a home in san jose, california. The plane just missed power lines and rooftops before crashing into the garage there, and the pilot and two passengers injured. Nobody in the house was hurt. The pilot reported a system failure before that crash. And in florida, watch this. This plane caught on camera here flying dangerously low crashing onto a street. It landed on the side of the road among the trees. The pilot and his passenger walked away with no injuries. Authorities say the pilot was forced to reroute because of engine trouble. Now to a new development in the d. B. Cooper hijacking case. It was years ago that a man calling himself dan cooper hijacked a flight from portland to seattle then parachuted from the plane with 200,000 in ransom money and was never seen ben. Well now Film Producer tom corbett obtained a letter from the fbi files written by cooper after the hijacking reportedly. He tells the daily mail that it proves that that hijacker survived his jump and contains secret details about the case including that no fingerprints were found on the plane. The fbi did not authenticate the letter. Colbert says he believes the hijacker is alive today. Wow, so the legend continues there. It does, indeed. All right, a woman in Southern California found herself getting some roadside assistance from Harrison Ford. The driver of this car lost control near Santa Barbara bra and crashed into an embankment in front of ford. That is the big question facing this jury. Jose Ines Garcia Zarate to face anything from firstdegree murder to Second Degree to Involuntary Manslaughter if the jury convicts him at all. Hes accused in the shooting death of kate steinle who was shot on pier 14. A stolen gun was used in the shooting. Zarates defense Attorney Says he found the gun under a bench and it accidentally went off. He was due to be deported for the sixth time but was handed over to San Francisco authorities instead of federal officials and the sanctuary city laws allowed him to stay. That plane slammed into a home in san jose. This happened yesterday afternoon just north of the reid hill view airport. You can see the small cessna smashed into the homes garage. Firefighters say it appears the plane suffered some sort of system failure. All three people inside the plane were badly hurt and taken to the hospital. Witnesses say the plane was flying low and out of control. Then turned sideways before it crashed. He missed the wire. He missed the wire. He missed the roof. Hit the garage.
