Isolated area up here in the mountains above san mateo and woodside. Listen to this number, though, kristen, 1,000 lightning strikes yesterday in san mateo and santa cruz counties. Seven fires were started by those lightning strikes. Three of those fires are still burning. The biggest one is here above woodside. The smoke can be seen from miles and miles around. The good news, its been dissipating over the past hour or so, as theyve dropped a lot of water on this fire. Take a look at this video from sky 7. Smoke and flames coming off the mountains above woodside. Only 10 acres right now. Cal fire says 100 firefighters from local agencies are battling the flames, water drops being done by helicopters and air tankers. More could be on the way if needed. Its really remote. Firefighters have to walk in about a mile to get to the flames or theyre being taken there by helicopter. And then they repel to the ground. It is not threatening any homes as we said. No estimate on when they hope to have it contained. Obviously, a big concern, though, is the weather and firefighters are concerned that more lightning strikes could take place. For the latest on that, were going to check in with meteorologist mike nicco. Hey, matt, incredible video. I have a lot more respect for those firefighters than i used to. It was a long afternoon and evening of those showers lightning bolts. See them right there. Moving from southeast to northwest. This is whats going on right now. We still have a few showers out there. And you can see theyre taking the same trajectory. Right now, no lightning out of those particular storms. Dont be surprised on the periphery right there on that edge between the bay area and the central valley, were getting a little uplift due to those hills coming off that flat land and that natural lifting is whats creating those showers and thundershowers. Now, whens the last time we used this . Yes. The storm impact scale makes an appearance in midseptember. Because we have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, again tonight, through tomorrow morning. Brief downpours, gusty winds at times. In fact, the southern half of the bay area is under whats called a marginal risk for severe weather. The lowest risk but how often do we have a risk for severe weather, kristen .
