The biggest wildfire in los angeles history is burning tonight. The frantic effort to keep it from hitting major residential neighborhoods. And big traffic delays around the bay bridge today as near portland, oregon, a Massive Wildfire is burning near the Columbia River. At least 140 hikers have been trapped by the flames in the Columbia River gorge. All night, helicopters have been air lifting them to safety. Heavy fire was seen along popular hiking trails along the Pacific Crest trail. Tonight, the fire burning near the city of los angeles is now the largest it has ever seen at 5,000 acres. Overnight, the flames reached burbank. Firefighters evacuated hundreds of homes. Fighting from the air and standing guard at the end of neighborhood streets as people rushed in and ott of their houses taking whatever they could load into cars. In fact, its poor for everyone. Even unhelpful for the eastland bay areas. Still hazy in san jose right now. So there is another spare the air alert tomorrow. You really just cant cool down at all. Rebuild a collapsed fillway on the largest dam in the United States and do it in an accelerated time line. We are on schedule to finish retrukt krukting the main spillway by december 1st. Reporter people have been working around the clock demolishing what was left. The spillway is 3,000 feet long and the widst th of a 16lane highway. Crews go through every inch of bedrock to make a smooth surface. They vacuum the rock to make sure the concrete can bond to the rock. Two months from the completion date and new kron crete is now being laid. Were about 25 done with replacement of the structural concrete. Not much of the 1961 crumbled version of the spillway remains. Gravel, concrete and steel now being used on the new chute. Brought us up to 2017 standards to ensure we dont have any problems again.
