Reporter ama, the heat wreaked havoc on the evening commute for bart and muni riders. They said it was toughest on the oldest vehicles in the fleet. Reporter commuters heading home for the Holiday Weekend faced long delays. Theres always delays when it is hot, and even when it is not hot. Most werent serious, they just needed fluids and had to cool off. Among those at risk for heat exhaustion during these hot temperatures, high school athletes. Abc 7 news katie utehs continues Team Coverage from pleasanton with how the east bay is dealing with the dangerous conditions. Reporter ama, at kickoff it was 94 and thats even with a delayed start time for this High School Football game. With high temperatures expected in the triple digits tomorrow, east bay crews are preparing for weather related emergencies. I feel like im in tucson. Reporter this High School Football field is more than 800 miles from tucson, but tonight some athletes are battling desert level heat. Foot hill and San Ramon Valley cancelled all of their games tonight, so we were wondering, maybe we should have, but its not too bad right now. Reporter Pleasanton Unified School district delayed the High School Game until after sunset. Whenever the students athletes need a break for water were going to break for water. It is not even a timeout. Reporter Alameda County fire is focusing on hydration, too. In anticipation of heatrelated calls this weekend. I would say we probably surge 10 to 15 on a high heat day over normal days. Reporter theyve loaded a hydration truck, brought in two dozers in case of wildfires an increased staffing for medical emergencies. Dont hesitate to call 911. Reporter smoky haze is also a concern. Youre looking at people waiting for shuttle buses after hot weather forced sfos air train system to close this afternoon. Air train is running limited service along with shuttle buses collecting terminals and the rental car center. Now imagine get married on one of the hottest days of the year. Obviously were retaining some of the heat from the summer scorcher today, and when you take a look as to what is going to happen tomorrow you will notice the temperatures are going to rapidly rice in concord, starting off at 74 degree you will be reeling by 1 00 in the triple digits already and peak at 113 degrees. That is excessively hot. This dangerous heat wave will continue as we head into saturday. As you look at live doppler 7 right now, you will see why. There isnt any fog. We dont even have a sea breeze. We dont have a downsloping wind, offshore flow, and thats been responsible for pushing some of the smoke from the fires burning in oregon, Northern California and to the east of us towards the bay area, which is why it has been so bad in terms of our air quality today. Smoky sunset from our mount tam cam as you look. Sun was going down and you saw that reddish hue along with the heat creating some of the haze. The combination of the smoke and haze creating that sunset you did experience today. You will see sunset like that again tomorrow as the air quality will remain poor.
