The sudden closure of a capital valley preschool is leaving parents scrambling to find a new place for their children. The Camelot School is closing for good friday and parents only received the word last week. Education reporter Leeann Melinda joins us with more on this story we learned about from an abc 7 viewer. This closure is going to affect about 130 children. Now, the reason for the closure is that the property behind me will eventually be sold and thats something the director of the preschool knew but never told parents. I received email on friday afternoon and i was in shock. Parents of camelot preschool in Castro Valley have less than five days to find a new school for their children. Now were all scrambling to find alternate child care in a community that has wait listes and doesnt have spots for our kid. The preschool has been leasing the property from the San Lorenzo School district for close to 10 tlous a month. Last october, the school board voted to begin the process of selling it. Its a Surplus Property and the district has rights to do what they need to do depending on the needs. On april 10th the School District notified camelots director, geor gi na armstrong. Armstrong never reached out to parents or teachers. Waiting, instead, until last friday to tell them. I told her why you didnt tell us . At least we deserve that you would call us and talk to us in person, not over email. Its not a restaurant. Its a school. Armstrong met again with a few parents today, but would not talk to us. Parents say she admitted knowing back in april the school would have to close. She actually knew for several months, but she didnt want to let parents or teachers know because the quality of care would degrade. At least two nearby preschools have stepped in and have added a few of the camelot kids. Others will have to begin the process of finding somewhere else to go.
