Abc7 news has uncovered a document showing the sheriff asked for suspected pier shooter to be transported from Southern California to San Francisco. Sanchez was being held in San Bernadino county in march and was brought to the bay area at the request of the sheriff. Abc7 news Cornell Bernard has more on the story. Cornell . There has been a lot of questions about how sanchez came to the bay area. This is the letter from the Sheriffs Office. It says when Francisco Sanchez was ready to be transported to a federal prison. The sheriff responded saying he had an old warrant and his department was following procedure. We are still scratching our heads. He blamed the feds for returning the pier14 murder suspect Francisco Sanchez to San Francisco in march on a 20yearold Marijuana Possession charge. This document obtained by abc7 news indicates it was the Sheriffs Office that made the request. The letter asked where he served the 46month sentence to notify the Sheriffs Department when it was ready for pick up. But his department was only responding to a request. All of the contact was initialized by the feds. Once that happens it is our obligation to arrange transportation. He was held for three weeks and then released but he was arrested in the killing of kate steinley. He blamed the sheriff for not warning the feds about sanchezs release. Such a call would not have violated the sanctuary city law designed to protect undocumented immigrants. Nothing in that law prevents or prohibits communication. Do i need to educate somebody about how to pick up a phone . We learned the handgun used was stolen from the carve a ranger from the bureau of Land Management in downtown San Francisco last month. New at 11 00 a short time ago, house lawmakers in South Carolina approved taking down the Confederate Flag from capitol grounds. The vote came after more than 13 hours of debate and a day after the state senators approved it. A third full chamber vote is required to get final approval. It would go to the governor who supports it. A couple in union city caused a real scare when they turned in a live tank round. Look at this thing. The police department, city hall and a library were evacuated for just under an hour until explosives experts removed this round. The couple found it by the railroad tracks. The officers searched the area and found nothing else suspicious. They are not sure how the tank got there. We are learning what police were looking for when they searched the home of a 19yearold man shot and killed by an officer. He was shot on sunday by officer Daniel Kunkle after they were attacked.
