KENNEBUNK, Maine – After filling a vacancy on the RSU 21 School Board just two weeks ago, town officials have filled that same seat yet again.
At the end of a process that drew some criticism, the Kennebunk Select Board on Tuesday appointed Gayle Asmussen Spofford to complete an unfinished term on the school board.
Spofford succeeds Josiah Currier, who resigned last Friday, citing personal reasons, without participating in a single school board meeting as a member.
Spofford will serve the remainder of the term, which ends June 30.
Spofford, who has a background in accounting, was appointed over four other candidates: salesperson Kortney Nedeau; educator and former attorney Claudia Sayre; educator David Wayne; and Peter Sentner, who has a background in social work and policy writing.
