Blackburn Magistrates Court
A MAN stopped by police in the early hours of the morning and found in possession of screwdrivers and a craft knife claimed he was on his way home to mend a door.
Blackburn magistrates heard Gregory Gennaro Franco tried to hide behind a car and discarded some of the tools he was carrying.
And Deputy District Judge Gary Garland described the defendant's door repair claim as a "fantastic story".
"I don't know many people who start doing DIY at 1am," said the judge.
Franco, 36, of Burnley Road, Padiham, pleaded guilty to going equipped for theft and possession of a bladed article. He was sentenced to 2 weeks in custody suspended for 18 months. He was made subject to a curfew between 7pm and 7am for four weeks and ordered to pay £85 costs and £128 victim surcharge.
