Ivey added that every member of the department is trained in computer security and who can be told about arrest warrants from state and federal databases. And they get refresher courses every two years.
The Sheriff's Office was alerted to the issue on March 29 when a law enforcement agency in Georgia said someone it was investigating claimed to have had contact with a Jacksonville sergeant, Ivey said. Further investigation revealed the sergeant had been asked to run the name to see if the person was wanted by any law enforcement agency.
The Sheriff's Office did not release what type of case was being investigated.
