TEHRAN, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- CovIran Barekat, the first Iranian domestic vaccine for COVID-19, has entered the stage of human trials, Iranian state TV IRIB reported on Tuesday.
"The human trials of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Iranian researchers start today with the injection of the vaccine on several volunteers," Hojjat Nik Maleki, spokesman of the headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini (EIKO), was quoted as saying.
EIKO is a state-owned enterprise under the direct control of the country's Supreme Leadership Authority, which is currently led by Ali Khamenei.
"I'm happy, not just because I'm the first volunteer, but because of the scientific process our country has made. I hope the result will be good for the health of the people," said Tayebeh Mokhber, the first volunteer to receive the vaccine, who is also the daughter of EIKO chief Mohammad Mokhber.
