Intruder at Joint Base Andrews roamed ‘unencumbered’ for hours before boarding military plane
Multiple security failures, including a distracted gate guard, allowed an unauthorized man to illegally enter Joint Base Andrews in Maryland last month, where he roamed around for over five hours before boarding a C-40 military aircraft that’s part of a fleet frequently utilized by senior government leaders, according to a new report released Thursday by the Air Force Inspector General.
The investigation into the February 4 incident found that the man was able to gain access to the base because the guard on duty at the time was “distracted” and did not check to see if he had proper credentials before allowing him to drive through.
