Syracuse, N.Y. – Inmates at the Justice Center jail in Syracuse are allowed just 30 minutes outside their cells -- every other day -- as jail officials try to stem the spread of novel coronavirus inside the facility.
The severe restrictions, which have spurred complaints from inmates and their families, thus far have failed to stop the virus from spreading. Thirty-one inmates are now infected, about 10% of the 312 inmates in custody, Sheriff Gene Conway said Monday. That’s up from 22 infections last week, Conway said.
