(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 4,004 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, with 21 additional deaths. The new coronavirus death toll in Illinois is now up to 21,476. The most recent statewide positivity report shows Illinois increasing in the past week from 3.1 up to 4.8 percent. (SPRINGFIELD) A judge says two former Illinois state lawmakers who argued that a freeze on raises violated the State Constitution can now collect back pay. Comptroller Susana Mendoza is pledging to appeal the decision and called the former lawmakers “shameless grifters.” Michael Noland of Elgin and James Clayborne of Belleville sued the state, arguing that laws freezing General Assembly salaries from 2009 to 2016 were illegal because lawmakers are barred from changing their pay during a current term.
