The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Acting Director, Ahmed Ogwell Ouma, requested support for full implementation of Africa's New Public Health Order to drive global health security, ahead of the 77thh UN General Assembly (Sept 13-26, 2022). In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic spread globally, former Africa CDC head, John Nkengasong, promoted the call for a New Public Health Order to support Africa in building more resilient health systems, and to adapt and cope with 21st century disease threats.
