(AFP) - As US authorities ramped up security ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, social media posts warned of an imminent two-week national quarantine, business closures and the mobilisation of troops across the country.
The claim, which circulated online as President Donald Trump announced an emergency in Washington DC to help fund enhanced security ahead of the inauguration, is misleading. It originates from a hoax letter that has been circulating online for months, according to National Guard units in various states.
