A hit-and-run driver who was jailed for killing a restaurateur in front of his wife and children was captured on CCTV sucking on a balloon at the wheel.
Gary Haffenden smashed his friend's mother's Ford Ranger pick-up truck into Syed Zaidi, 35, in Virginia Water, Surrey, on March 17, 2019.
The 21-year-old yard worker - who had recently married his girlfriend - fled the scene and later handed himself into Staines police station, claiming a pedestrian 'stumbled out' in front of his car.
CCTV footage showed him sucking on a balloon thought to be filled with nitrous oxide or 'laughing gas.'
The pink balloon is seen blown up in Haffenden's mouth as he drives through the forecourt of a petrol station - just 10 minutes before the tragic crash that killed Mr Zaidi.
