On Monday afternoon (June 28), as Environment Canada recorded 44 C on the thermometer at Kamloops Airport, with a Humidex reading of 47 C, the city issued a press release stating several streets and capital projects have shut down for the week.
In addition, landfills will operate under reduced hours. The Mission Flats Landfill and Kamloops Resource Recovery Centre will open slightly earlier and operate for half-days on Tuesday and Wednesday. They will be open from 7 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and Wednesday. They usually open an hour or so later, around 8 a.m., and close at about 4 p.m. The facilities are expected to return to regular hours on Canada Day.
