The Fairfield Mules have made it to the second round of the Class 3A IHSA football playoffs. The Mules defeated Hoopeston 26 to nothing at the Train Yard Saturday afternoon. The Mules next opponent will be Williamsville, who defeated Beardstown by a final of 43 to 22. According to information from Fairfield Community High School, the game has been set for this Saturday, November 6th at 2 p.m. The game can be heard on WFIW-FM 104.9 and wfiwradio.com 61-year-old Joseph Kopman of Elizabethtown, IL died late Friday night in an accident in Gallatin County. Illinois State Police at the District 19 post, headquartered at Carmi, say Kopman was driving a 2005 Dodge Stratus north on Forest Road just south of Kedron Road and for unknown reasons, left the roadway and hit a ditch embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn. Kopman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. The crash remains under investigation. Fairfield Memorial Hospital has announced that Vanessa Ewing has been named the October Employee of the Month. Ewing has been with the hospital since May of 2016, and is the Health Information Management Clerk. Susan Suddarth, Health Information Director, says Ewing is a "go-to" person in the Health Information Management Department to help with difficult or large projects. Illinois lawmakers have passed a new plan that would create new tax incentives for more electric vehicle manufacturers to come to the state. According to media reports, the Reimagining Electric Vehicles, or REV, Act would create tax credits for manufacturers of electric vehicles, parts and even power suppliers. Automakers and battery manufacturers could receive big income tax credits if they can guarantee a significant number of new jobs. Companies could also receive tax incentives for expanding their business into the state. The proposal heads to Governor J.B. Pritzker's desk for his approval. At Carmi the river is at 13.37 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City stands at 5.77 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 14.96 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. Mainly dry weather is expected this week, outside of a couple of rain or snow shower chances Tuesday and Thursday.
