What the airport told me today is the name change request "has completed the initial processing steps." What that means is pilots now see aviation maps that say Harry Reid international.
According to the FAA, it's finished updating aeronautical charts, publications, and pilot notices.
In February, the Clark County Commission voted unanimously to rename America's 9th busiest airport. Since 1948, it had been named after Nevada's Pat McCarran, an aviation supporter, but who, according to critics, was racist and anti-Semitic.
"Harry Reid International" will honor our former us senator and the former Senate majority leader.
