Gulf Cooperation Council's reconciliation with Qatar paves way for a smooth organisation of 2022 FIFA World Cup – New Delhi Times

Supreme Council, the highest GCC authority, praised the preparations made by the State of Qatar to host the 2022 Football World Cup and “reaffirmed its support for the State of Qatar in anything that leads to the success of the upcoming World Cup”
On January 5, 2021, at the 41st Summit of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the leaders signed the Al-Ula declaration (named after the Saudi city where the Summit took place) aimed towards ending the diplomatic rift with Qatar.
In a symbolic move, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud signed the document alongside Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Kuwait’s Amir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Fahd bin Mahmoud Al-Said, and GCC’s Secretary General Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf. Egypt was also invited to the summit and signed the Al-Ula declaration. The Al-Ula Declaration aims at strengthening the unity and solidarity between the GCC Member states, restore the normal joint Gulf actions, and preserve the security and stability of the region.
