Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today proposed the Advanced Building Codes, Appliance and Equipment Efficiency Standards Act of 2021 to significantly strengthen the State's building codes, improve energy and water efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in New York State. This legislation was introduced along with a report submitted to the New York State Legislature from the New York State Energy and Research Authority and the New York State Department of State highlighting increased appliance energy efficiency standards would save New Yorkers $15 billion by 2035, with 40 percent of savings delivered to low-to-moderate income residents.
